“Understanding the various tasks and duties associated with managing
a secondary program in business or marketing is an important first
step in prioritizing professional development needs. In addition to the
traditional duties associated with teaching academic subjects, business
and marketing teachers also involve students in leadership activities
that require advanced preparation, travel, teamwork, fundraising, and
community involvement. They maintain laboratories that need to
utilize modern technology used in industry. They recruit and manage
advisory boards of industry experts who inform and provide direction
for their programs, and they seek to provide students an education that
will build a strong foundation for entering the workforce or pursuing
additional education. While engaged in these tasks, they must also
maintain records and complete program reports to various local and
state agencies” (Kitchel, Cannon, & Duncan, 2009, p. 1).
