Bishop of Winchester Appeal Update
The Lent Course 2016: ‘I Witness’
The Bishop’s Lent Course for 2016 is aimed at growing our confidence to witness to the Gospel in all its fullness. Rooted in the
Acts of the Apostles and Luke’s Gospel, it will help us to explore how living the mission of Jesus in the power of his Holy Spirit
means we are people and communities which:
 Steward Faithfully
 Act Justly
 Serve Sacrificially
 Teach Effectively
 Proclaim Boldly
Last year, St Benedict (‘Ben’) helped us to bring a ‘rhythm’ to our lives. This year we will be empowered to share the good news
Ben knew with those around us. Look out for more details of the ‘I Witness’ course, coming soon.

Zombies Vs. Aliens: Engaging Every Generation
Ben Ainslie Racing HQ
Old Portsmouth
10am – 4pm
EVER wondered why different generations seem to think differently? Why might the values and
priorities of teenagers seem to be the opposite of ours? Why might we get frustrated with older
people, whose attitudes appear to us to be stuck in the past? The generation gap can make young
people seem like aliens to older people, and old people seem like zombies to the young!
That’s why ‘Zombies versus Aliens’ is the title given to a weekend looking at what has shaped the
thinking of each generation, and how those generational differences might affect the Church.
International business speaker Dr Graeme Codrington, will lead a session to examine these issues in detail.
If you have any queries about the event, please contact Nicky Pybus on 023 9289 9670 or info@csrnet.org. You can book directly
for the session by visiting:

where, as someone said on the night, you could feel the warmth and love. We are sad to let go and no longer be involved so
directly with people and places which we have loved, but feel that the time is right to lay aside the responsibilities of being an
archdeacon and look forward to a new chapter in our lives.”
The Reverend Canon Richard Brand has been appointed as the new Archdeacon of Winchester. He will be Collated as Sunday 21
February 2016 at 3.30 pm during Evensong in Winchester Cathedral. All are welcome.

Your Church Wedding
The Church of England has launched a brand new re-design of their hugely popular website www.yourchurchwedding.org, with
essential information for couples planning their wedding within the Church of England.
The current website, which received over 990,000 visits in 2014, enables couples to explore the possibility of a church wedding,
and to make choices about their service. A total of 77,500 weddings have been drafted on the website with the Ceremony
Planner tool since its launch.
The re-designed website contains everything a couple needs to know about a church wedding, from where they can get married
and how they can get in touch with the church to the choices they can make about their ceremony. There is also a section called
‘more about marriage’ which will help clergy to have conversations with couples as they look forward to their future together.

Winchester Cathedral – 2015 Christmas Market
Winchester is a must-visit destination for all those wishing to experience a traditional Christmas.
The city justly claims to be England’s Christmas Capital and its Cathedral is at the heart of the
festivities with a stunning Christmas Market and Real Ice rink dominating its beautiful and historic
Close.
The 2015 Christmas market runs from 19 November- 22 December and the Ice Rink from 19
November to 3 January 2016.
2015 marks the tenth anniversary of the Christmas Market and Ice Rink and it is expected both events will be bigger and better
than ever before. From its relatively modest beginnings, with just 40 chalet-style stalls, the Christmas Market now attract over
350,000 visitors each year with 100 attractive wooden chalets and has achieved a reputation as being amongst the very best in
the country and now also has international status. The result is a city proud to call itself England’s Christmas Capital, with the
Cathedral and its Christmas Market at the very centre of the celebrations.
