Science + Engineering + Innovation
The most significant breakthroughs of the 21st Century have taken place in the interface of science and
engineering. The Ateneo School of Science and Engineering (SOSE) combines the strengths of science
& engineering in an interdisciplinary and innovative effort to meet the challenges of globalization,
sustainability, poverty, and the environment.
The following graduate degree programs are being offered under the ERDT Consortium:
Department of Information Systems and Computer
Science (DISCS)
Department of Electronics, Computer and Communications
Engineering (ECCE)
DISCS offers state-of-the-art graduate programs leading to
a degree in MS Computer Science and PhD in Computer
Science. The department is currently focusing on the
following research areas: Computational Science, Affective
Computing, Pedestrian Behavior Analysis, Software
Engineering, Interactive Multimedia, and Mobile Computing.
DISCS is a CHED Center of Excellence.
The MS in Electronics Engineering degree is a research-oriented graduate program.
The program is customizable to fit specific areas of interest and engagements with
industrial partners and external research institutions or for the development system
and devices for a technology oriented business. Most of our classes and laboratory
activities are held on Saturdays, enabling flexible engagement with the thriving
research ecosystem of the School of Science and Engineering and its partners.
The MS Computer Science is a research-oriented program
with 5 specialization tracks: Multimedia and Instructional
Technology, Software Engineering, Computer Networks and
Data Communications, Computer Science Theory and
Information Technology. Academic requirements: 24 units
course work + 6 units thesis; presentation or publication.
The PhD Computer Science is designed for mastery of
advanced computer science theory and applications, and
independent research. Academic requirements: MS CS or
equivalent; 18 units course work + 12 units dissertation;
presentation and publication.
Our students and faculty mentors are engaged in the development of technologies in
many engineering areas, including microelectronics and chip design, semiconductor
test and measurement, biomedical engineering, biomedical signals and imaging,
sensor networks, web and mobile applications, wireless and communications
networks, renewable energy systems, information and logistics systems,
photogrammetry and unmanned aerial vehicles, and complex systems. The students
use a variety of commercial and open source software and tools to accomplish their
design goals including the Synopsis IC Design Suite, Arduino microcontrollers, Altera
FPGAs, Matlab, National Instruments Labview, Solidworks, Android and OpenCV.
Academic requirements. 6 units core, 6 units Research Seminars, 3 units colloquia,
9 units electives, 6 units thesis. The students are required to have presented at least
one poster or oral paper in a peer reviewed domestic or international conference.

The Ateneo Innovation Center (AIC) was created in 2009 to enhance the University’s function of teaching, research and
outreach by directing these toward the development of innovative Science and Technology solutions and challenges in
industry and society. The ECCE department manages the Ateneo Innovation Center, which facilitates close engagement
with Industry and enables the development of student and faculty run technology oriented businesses.
The Ateneo Java Wireless Competency Center (AJWCC) is a research center established in 2003 to cultivate research and
new product experimentation in wireless technologies .
