Brock McDonough
The Amana Colonies is one of America’s longest living Communal Societies. It began in
the year of 1714 . It is by Williamsburg, Iowa and Marengo, Iowa. Sometimes the
Amanas are mistaken for the Amish.
When Chief Black Hawk was very young he became a brave. Black Hawk was a war chief
who led his Sauk tribe to war. Black Hawk went to prison fighting for his land in Iowa, Hew
refused to give up without a fight.
Corn is America’s number one field crop. Corn is used for your breakfast, eggs and soft drinks.
Like Pepsi, Coke and root beer. Corn Flakes are mostly eaten in Iowa because they have so
many corn products in them.
Iowa is about 40% of corn in the U.S.A.

Dallas Clark was born in June 12, 1979 and he is now 31. He was born in Sioux
Falls, South Dakota. He plays for the Indianapolis Colts as a tight end. He used to
play for the Iowa Hawkeyes, but now for the Colts.

The Eastern Goldfinch is Iowa’s state bird. It became our state bird in 1933. The
Eastern Goldfinch is usually welcome in any yard in the U.S.A. It’s Iowa’s State bird
because its colors are black and yellow.

Iowa is famous for its fertile soil and its great for growing
crops. Iowa has more than 100,000 farms , so it makes us the
third best state in the U.S.A. Iowa grows the most corn in all,
of the 50 states, because it has such good soil.

rocks. They contain spikey quartz crystals.
Geodes are also called nodules.

Herbert Hoover was born on August 10, 1874. He died on
October 20, 1963. Herbert Hoover was the 31st President of
the U.S.A. The first lady was Lou Henry.

mesquakie villages. President Martin
Van Buren was the territorial
governor of Iowa City in 1838. Ansel
Briggs was Iowa City’s first governor.

Robert Morrison. He was a famous
actor, producer, and director from
Iowa.

Keokuk is a town in northeastern Iowa where
the Des Moines river and the Mississippi river
meet. The town is named after the Sauk chief
Keokuk.

Loess Hills are in the western part of Iowa,
they are also on of the states seven major
topographic regions. They have major gullies
that are really deep. Sometimes they find cool
rocks and fossils there too.

The Mississippi river is Iowa’s most
known river. It is the fourth longest river
that stretches from Minnesota through
Iowa and down to the gulf of Mexico. It is
3,870 miles long at that distance.

abbreviated for University of
Northern Iowa. Their domes are
UNIDOME or UNI Dome.

Oak tree is Iowa’s state tree and has over 60
species. It has been Iowa’s state tree since 1961.
Acorns are what fall from the oak tree. They are
favorites for wild turkeys, squirrels, and
chipmunks.

from the twenty sixth to the thirty first. At first
it was a small idea, but it grew to something
huge and unexpected.

In Iowa there are about 15 types of squirrels and I’m going to only talk about
two. First of all there is the thirteen lined squirrel. They are found in short grass,
golf courses and ditches. There are 15 different types of squirrels but I’ll only
do two. The black squirrel is famous to Council Bluffs, Iowa. They named their
mascot Chipper. They even made coins to represent the black squirrel.

He was president for 30 years from 1847 to
