Jolly Date: November 28, 2011; Day One Grade Level: 7th Subject: Science Frameworks: Strand 2: Life Science Standard 3: Life Cycles, Reproduction, and Heredity Students shall demonstrate and apply knowledge of life cycles, reproduction, and heredity using appropriate safety procedures, equipment, and technology. o LS.3.7.1 Explain that the fertilized egg cell carries genetic information from each parent and multiplies to form a complete organism. o LS.3.7.2 Distinguish between sperm cells and egg cells. o LS.3.7.3 Compare and contrast the structure and function of the sperm cell and the egg cell in vertebrates and plants and their role in sexual reproduction o LS.3.7.7 Differentiate between sexual and asexual reproduction in Vertebrates Plants o LS.3.7.8 Identify the number and source of chromosomes in human body cells. o LS.3.7.9 Identify the number and source of chromosomes in human sex cells. o LS.4.5.8 Describe and diagram the carbon dioxide-oxygen cycle in ecosystems o LS.4.5.9 Identify the number and source of chromosomes in human sex cells. o LS.4.5.10 Explain the role of cell division. Overview: Students will complete a review test in class to prepare them for their unit test. Purpose: The purpose of the test is to give a formative assessment to see what information the student has obtained over cell reproduction, and to assess if they are prepared for the chapter test. Objectives: Students will complete a formative assessment on Cellular Reproduction to assess their retained knowledge. Activities: Pre-Test Assessments (Attached): Pre-Test Academic/Content Vocabulary: Mitosis Chromosome Asexual Reproduction Sexual Reproduction Resources/Materials Needed: Pre-Test Research-Based Instructional Strategies: Homework and Practice Daily Bell Ringer: Page 300; 1-10 Sperm Egg Fertilization Zygote Diploid Haploid Meiosis DNA Gene RNA Mutation Enrichment/Differentiation: Special need students o will grade 7 out of 10 on the bell ringer o will have entire class period to complete the pre-test o will be able to take pre-test home to finish o will send modified pre-test to special need teacher Enrichment o Will have extra work for students that finish early o Will have open response to challenge gifted students Notes or Changes in Lesson Plan:
