Week 7 Internet Regulation The internet is a worldwide network of computer networks that use certain network protocols to enable data transmission and exchange, where anyone with a computer can access the internet through an ISP (internet service provider). Internet regulation is basically restricting or controlling access to certain aspects or information. Internet regulation consists of mainly two categories: Censorship of data, and controlling aspects of the Internet. Internet Governance Internet governance is the development and application of shared principles, norms, rules, decision-making procedures, and programs that shape the evolution and use of the Internet. The internet is currently governed and some people disagree with this. They think that they should be able to do what they please on the internet without it being governed. Week 8 EdX EdX is a website that offers free college level courses from the two of the top universities, Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It features learning designed specifically for interactive study via the web. This could be helpful to people that want to learn more just to learn, it doesn’t count as any credits but it could help people’s knowledge about some college courses. IP Address An Internet Protocol address is a numerical label assigned to each device joining in a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication. This is necessary for us to be able to communicate with these devices and makes it easier to identify them. Week 9 IPv6 IPv6 stands for Internet Protocol Version 6 and it is the latest revision of the Internet protocols. The old one was called IPv4 and they needed a new version because IPv4 was running out of address for the Internet. Net Neutrality Network neutrality is standard law that advocates government regulation of Internet service providers preventing ISPs from restricting consumers' access to networks that participate in the Internet. Network neutrality mainly prevents restrictions on certain content, sites, types of equipment and modes of communication. Week 10 Windows 8 Windows 8 is the new release of software for personal computers but out by Microsoft. Windows 8 introduces significant changes to the operating system's platform, primarily focused towards improving its user experience on mobile devices such as tablets to rival other mobile operating devices. ANS A routing autonomous system is a collection of connected internet protocol routing prefixes under the control of one or more network operators that presents a common, clearly defined routing policy to the Internet. This is helpful for identifying each network on the internet. Week 11 Privacy Internet privacy involves the right of personal privacy concerning the storing, altering, providing to third-parties, and displaying of information pertaining to oneself via the internet. This is a right, but unfortunately there is no way to be certain that your information is used otherwise, so anyone has to be careful what they put on the internet. Border Gateway Protocol Border Gateway Protocol is the procedure which makes essential routing decisions on the internet. It maintains a table of IP networks or 'prefixes' which designate network reach-ability among autonomous system.
