1. Summary Statement: State the major function(s) of the position and its role in the
university. Attach an organizational chart with positions, ranges, and names for the division
which reflects the position in it as well as those supervised in the department. (This section is
used for advertisement of the position.)
The Coordinator, International Marketing and Recruitment, is responsible for international marketing,
recruiting international students and advising prospective international students on the admissions
process. The individual creates marketing materials, participates in recruitment fairs, enhances
communications, provides data assessment, coordinates international alumni contacts, and manages
information pertaining to international student admission and recruitment. Additional responsibilities
will require the individual to coordinate management of professional recruitment agents under contract
by the university worldwide. The position reports to the Director, International Students and Scholars
(OISS).
2. List the major responsibilities, including percentage of time devoted to each. Provide
enough detail to enable a person outside the department to understand the job (percentage

30% - Marketing, Recruitment and Communications
 Design international student recruitment and marketing campaigns by creating
advertisements, faculty packets, admission packets, community college mailing, overseas
agencies mailing, international student packets, and international alumni packets
 Review and regularly update international recruitment marketing materials (written, web
based, and other formats)
 Enhance OISS recruitment by targeting high school counselors working with foreign exchange
students, international schools overseas, and international baccalaureate schools
 Assist OISS Director in communicating admissions information to international organizations in
Washington, D.C. and around the world
 Attend recruitment events as needed both domestic and international
 Assess and develop strategies to increase international student transfers from community
colleges
 Create and update resource list of websites that feature University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) to
international students; update free listings of UNR/OISS on the web
 Develop OISS web site pertaining to international student recruitment of admissions; highlight
global nature of the university community, provide information on financial assistance, and
feature success stories/profiles of accomplished alumni
 Use social media to reach out to current and prospective students to keep them informed of
university highlights and happenings
15% - Admissions Counseling & International Visa Document Collection
 Counsel international students and families seeking information on admission and respond to
calls and inquiries
 Provide basic immigration advisement for international students (including exchange students)
and scholars on F1 and J1 student visas (travel, how to apply for a visa, etc.) as it pertains to
admissions
 Maintain open communication with prospective international and exchange students
 Provide assistance for collection of needed documents for I-20/DS-2019 visa forms
 Coordinate preparation and sending of admissions packets to new international and exchange
students
 Write letters of support for students who have difficulty obtaining visas

15% - Agent Coordination
 Facilitate processing of Agent applications and approval
 Train and communicate on a regular basis via electronic media or on-site
 Respond to inquiries submitted by agents
15% - Assessment
 Generate reports on all OISS recruitment efforts (monthly, annually, etc.)
 Develop system to track recruitment data, application data, and enrollment data
 Assist with follow up of potential students in PeopleSoft, MS Access, and other databases
15% - Special Programs
 Implement all on-campus special recruitment programs, i.e., high school hosting exchange
students, agent familiarity day and community counselor workshops for purpose of identifying
and recruiting potential students to the university, especially talented students
 Professional development: participate in NAFSA: Association of International Educators to
educate yourself about the latest recruitment and educational trends
5% - International Alumni Student Recruitment
 Work with local international alumni members in developing recruitment programs which enlist
the support of alumni in the recruitment process
3. Describe the level of freedom to take action and make decisions with or without
supervision and how the results of the work performed impact the department, division and/or
the university as a whole.
Level of Freedom:
UNR has a strong commitment to attracting the best and brightest international students who are
active participants in their institution and in the community and who contribute to university research.
The individual provides information about the university to broad-based constituencies and works
cooperatively with the university and international community to promote access to higher education.
The individual solves complex problems regarding educational objectives, counseling of prospective
international students and basic immigration advisement, as well as information on financial resources
and visa options for students, parents, and the general public. The individual works closely with the
Director, OISS, on decisions associated with the position, but must work independently, with initiative,
and with some latitude in decision-making.
Impact:
Decisions and judgments in this area significantly impact the enrollment and retention rates of
international students. This position is critical to the OISS mission of bringing outstanding international
students to the UNR community. Decisions made by the Coordinator impact the level of success that
the university has with the retention and academic success of international students served by the
unit. This position is very visible to the public and therefore has a direct impact on the perception of
the university and its reputation.
