What is UHCAN Ohio?
UHCAN Ohio is a statewide healthcare advocacy organization
whose mission is to achieve high quality, accessible, affordable
health care for all Ohioans.
With offices in Columbus, Cincinnati and Cleveland it works on
issues of access to health care, health system transformation and
population health, across the age spectrum.
What is the Somebody Finally Asked Me!

Intervention and Referral to Treatment
(SBIRT) in youth settings throughout Ohio,
particularly schools.

Foundation and provided guidance and

REFLECTIONS
•
This is a simple program- but simple is not always easy
•
Having more than one screener is optimal
•
Our medical staff were not as comfortable as our social work staff with motivational interviewing
•
We did not do as well as we had hoped with the Brief Intervention portion of the project
•
We had set up a space in our Student Information Database to record for last year, but forgot to set it up so we
could record each year
•
Prevention First! Developed a toolkit to help other schools launch SBIRT
