Seahorses Newsletter
Dear Parents, Family and Friends,
It has been an exciting 2 weeks of camp! It is hard to believe how many things we have
done in such a short time! First, a little about our group! This year we chose the group name
The Seahorses. We have a large group of 23 campers so there is never a dull moment! There
are 9 girls and 14 boys in our group. There are also 6 counselors: Aisling, Cameron, Mara,
Ian, Maddi and Danny. Each day we participate in a variety of activities. Let us tell you a little
about we have done thus far.
In sports with Ang we have learned a lot of new fun games. Some of the games
include pac man tag, bowling dodge ball, scat cat, and animal tag. Sometimes we are even
lucky enough to team up with the other 1st grade group and play with all of our friends.
Drama with Chris has become one of the highlights of camp this summer! The
Seahorses have been helping Chris to act out different Disney stories. So far we have worked
on The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and we are currently finishing up the story of Beauty and The
Beast. The Seahorses are very good actors!
In dance with Lexi and Meghan we have been learning lots of new moves! We have
fun dancing and playing dance games like musical bumps, Indian chief, and going on bear
hunts. We will soon be starting to come up with a routine for our end of camp talent show.
You can hear us singing the songs we have learned in music with Jason all day long!
Some of the songs we have worked on thus far are our camp song, The Peanut Song, and
the Bird Song. Our favorite song however is most definitely the Bumble Bee Song!
Making fun treats in cooking as well as eating them is the best part of the day! So far
we have made s’mores, cups of dirt, and magic cookie bars. We can’t wait to see what else
we will be making this summer.
Art and Crafts with Domingo is a great place to cool down, relax and make fun
projects! The Seahorses have worked on drawing a still life, making a background using
tissue paper for their still life and drawing sail boats.
Science with Luke has taught us so many new things! The Seahorses have gone on
nature walks, made lava lamps, made “Gak” and have done experiments involving
microwaving different candy and observing what happens!
We love playing games with Alex! So far we have played duck duck goose, running
bases, mother may I, and we're going on a picnic.
We are always excited for days we get to go to the pool! We have all been working
with Jenny, Darby, and Annie on improving our swimming during instruction. We love playing
with friends during free swim especially all of our friends from the other 1st grade group, the
Sea Turtles.
In our free time, you can usually catch us cooling down in the library with board games,
Jenga, Uno, knock hockey and making bracelets. We also enjoy running around on the
playground!
Theme days at camp are the best! So far we have done red, white and blue day, tie
dye day, and of course superhero/royalty day. We have many more fun theme days coming
up so be sure to check the calendar!
We can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer has in store for us! Although we have
already done so much there is still a lot to look forward to!
Sincerely,
Aisling, Cameron, Mara, Ian, Maddi, and Danny
PS- Don't forget to check out all the fun we are having here at camp on the Port Day Camp
website and our new Instagram account @PortDayCamp!
Hi, I’m Kelley, the Sea Turtles Head Counselor! We have had such an exciting two
weeks at camp and we can’t wait to tell you all about it!
Every day is a new adventure for us with different activities. We have been busy
sea turtles making new friends and learning new games. In Chef Shop, Brian has
taught us how make the most delicious magic cookie bars and s’mores! Mmmmm! 
In Music, Jason has been teaching us some fun camp songs that we love singing
with our friends throughout the day. Sports and Games with Ang and Alex have
really been getting us up and moving! Some of our favorite games to play have
been “Fishy, Fishy, Come into Our Ocean” and “Splat Cat”. We know it’s important
to always be a good sport whether we win or lose! The pool has been our favorite
place to cool off and splash around with the other first grade group, “The
Seahorses”. We get lessons with Jenny where we learn different strokes, how to
float on our back and become better sea turtle swimmers!
Every Friday we have special assemblies. The first one was Party Pets, and we
got to meet lots of interesting animals. A gigantic snake, tarantula, hedgehog,
fox, and tortoise to just name a few! It was awesome!
Our counselors are working hard everyday to make sure your children are happy,
hydrated and protected from the sun! Some reminders to help make the camp day
the best day ever:
 Sunscreen that sprays and wearing your bathing suit to camp is a huge
timesaver!!
 Pack lots of water and snacks! Our sea turtle bellies are always hungry! 
If you ever have any questions or concerns don’t hesitate to reach out! We have
your child’s best interest at heart and love spending our days teaching them new
things and making them smile!

Dear Stingray Families,
This summer has been off to a wonderful start here at Port Day Camp.
The Stingrays have been busy participating in many fun activities. A crowd
favorite is always Sports with Ang. We have played many teambuilding
games such as fishy-fishy come into my ocean and sharks and minnows.
Another favorite is Art with Domingo. We have already worked on two
projects! We made a detailed self-portrait and recently finished a vibrant
colored cityscape. The Stingrays also love water games in our courtyard.
The campers enjoy sliding on the slip-n-slide, dumping water on themselves
and their counselors, and spraying each other with the hose. With so many
exciting activities our days are flying by!
It has been a pleasure getting to watch your children grow and make
so many new friends thus far. Your children are full of energy and have
proven to be team players. Just as a friendly reminder, please try to send
your son or daughter(s) to camp in their swim wear. This saves time
changing during the day so we can continue playing. Don’t forget that we
have decade day coming up next week!
Best Wishes,
Chrissy, Nikki, Ian, Val, and Jaeson (Stingray Counselors)
THE SWORDFISH
The first two weeks of camp have been a BLAST! Our group
loves the AMAZING activities Port Day Camp offers such as Science
with Luke, Sports with Ang and Art with Domingo, just to name a few
. We LOVE the pool and we are learning so much during our
swim lessons with Jenny and Annie!
We are so LUCKY to have had Party Pets come to camp last
week! They brought snakes, lizards, spiders and the softest animals
EVER, chinchillas! We were able to pet or hold each of the animals,
all while we learned a TON of information about each creature’s
habitat, eating habits and behavior.
The National Circus Project was PHENOMENAL!!! We are
REALLY fortunate to have had a professional circus perform for us
right here at Manorhaven! We are in awe of all they did and were
thoroughly entertained!
We are VERY excited for next week! We can’t wait to play in
our own World Cup Soccer Tournament at camp and to dress up for
Decades Day! The swordfish are all about camp spirit, friendship and
FUN!
Sincerely,
Lauren Foster, Kelly Nardone,
Jason Toth and Justin Masi
The Manatees Newsletter
July 10, 2015
Dear Manatee Parents and Guardians,
Wow, what a fantastic start to the summer! We have been at camp for just two
weeks but we have done and experienced so many wonderful activities. Port Day Camp
started off by meeting all of our new counselors and campers by playing several
different and unique ice breaker games. The Manatees have been to Manorhaven pool
four times already and have been participating in swim lessons with Jenny and Annie
and our group is having so much fun playing water games at camp as well. In Chef Shop
we have made cheese-dogs, oatmeal raisin cookies and chocolate chip cookies, yummy!
We have danced and learned so many exciting games in dance. We have also sung our
little hearts out in music and we are having a rocking good time playing the bucket
drums. In art, we made our symmetrical portraits and we also used oil pastels and water
color paint. We have stolen the spotlight and have left the audience begging for more
during our drama sessions. The tie dyed shirts that we made were phenomenal and we
looked amazing in our superhero gear. Phfewww, we may be sea cows but we are really
moving fast this summer!
At Port Day Camp we have so many wonderful events to look forward to. In our
third week at camp we will participate in World Cup week starting on Monday July 13.
On Tuesday July 14, hop into your DeLorean because we are heading back in time for
our camp decades day! On Wednesday July 15 Port Day Camp will have a Camp Dance
Day, so wear your dancing shoes. On Thursday July 16, come dressed as your favorite
celebrity or music star. Last but certainly not least on Friday July 17, Jester Jim stops by
to put a smile on all of our faces! There is so much more to look forward to as we enter
the second session of camp, so stay tuned for more details!
Just a friendly reminder, please send you child to camp in their bathing suits and
apply sunscreen at home before coming to camp, in order to ensure that we arrive at
Manorhaven pool on time. Thanks for all of your continued support and we will
continue to do our best here at Port Day Camp!
Sincerely,
The Manatee Counselors

Clownfish
By: Michael Elcock
CLOWNFISH, OOHAHA! Hi there, my
name is Michael, or as the campers like to call me,
Mr. E. I am the head counselor for the camp
group, the Clownfish. The first couple of weeks
have been absolutely amazing. We have had quite the adventure so far. The Clownfish have shown
their culinary skills in the kitchen by baking wonderful breads, and delicious cookies. They have also
shown how much they love athletics, exhibiting both teamwork and sportsmanship, all while having
tons of fun out on the fields. Have I mentioned the musical talents that our group possesses? The
Clownfish have been practicing a multitude of songs, as well as engaging in cool games like musical
chairs, and the ever-popular freeze dance. Speaking of dance, the Clownfish are sharpening their
moves pretty quickly on the dance floor in our camps’ dance classes!
One of my favorite things about Port Day camp is that no two days are the same. Here at camp,
most days are theme-based. One day, the Clownfish are dressing as our favorite superheroes. The next
day, we are dressing in our fantastic, custom-made tie-dye shirts. And some of us have even dressed as
dancing monkeys! I can’t wait for some of the upcoming theme days, especially Disney Day!
Sometimes we even have special events at camp. For instance, instead of going to the zoo, the zoo
came to us. As our first event, the Clownfish got to see exotic animals like pythons, alligators,
chinchillas, and even creepy-crawly tarantulas, all on the camp grounds. Sure, there is an abundance
of fun going on around school but we, the Clownfish, can have some fun away from the campgrounds
as well. Our time together has taken us to the courts to play tennis, and we have even gone sailing on
the high seas. And, of course, the Clownfish just love having a splashing good time at the pool.
What makes the Clownfish so great is that we are made up of unique individuals who have all
joined Port Day Camp just to enjoy our summer together. Each person in our group brings something
special to the table. Brian, Jessie, Coleen, and I are all looking forward to an amazing rest of the
summer with you guys. The fun has just started. Are you ready Clownfish? One more time!
Clownfish, OOHAHA!
Sincerely the Clownfish Counselors,
Mike, Brian, Jessie, Colleen

Tiger Sharks
Dear Families,
We have had a great start to camp this year! We have done everything from
swimming, to cooking, sports, and sailing! Our theme days have been a lot of fun and
we can’t wait for World Cup week to start on Monday!
At the pool, we took our swim tests and got to swim with our friends from the
other 4th grade group. When we aren’t swimming, we are racing each other on the slip-nslides at camp or sailing at the harbor. We did a great job on our first day out on the
boats!
Cooking with Brian has been delicious! We’ve made buttermilk bread, oatmeal
raisin cookies, pasta salad, and cheesy dogs! We are excited to see what we make next!
In Science, Luke helped us to make goop, which was slimy! We also looked at
different items in nature and tested density with milk.
In our sports classes, Ang had us cross the toxic river only using a few items to
get our teams across. She taught us to play Irish kickball, which we loved! With Alex,
we played Indian chief and freeze tag.
Dance with Meghan has turned into a huge dance competition! After practicing
some moves together, we like to have a dance off in class. Drama with Chris has been
fun! We sang a song about Kentucky fried chicken and we are going to start practicing
our skits that we will perform for our friends.
In Art with Domingo, we started to draw some silly fish that we will turn into
something cool later on. In Music, we practiced our camp song and made music playing
body percussion!
We are having a great time in camp and cannot wait for the next few weeks!

My name is Brian McCray and I am the Head Counselor for the 5th and 6th grade boys. Right off
the bat, I have to say what makes this group truly unique is the diversity of interests that the campers all
have. On the first day of camp, we found ourselves playing soccer right in the middle of the day. Every
camper was engaged and competitive during the game. It ended up being a close one and you can really
see how much each of the campers loved the sport. Their love for competing would emerge once again
when we used our group time to play kickball. The campers were incredibly involved in every moment
of the game, shouting out advice on when to run or stay, as well as complimenting each other for a
good hit. The counselors were able to enjoy the fun too and the campers were more than willing to
except the challenge of trying to spoil our home run kicks!
Then, we had arts and crafts. Now, being in the art education field myself, I always look
forward to doing these activities with the campers. I ended up being blown away by the abundance of
talent within the group. There was a free draw period in which I was introduced to each camper's
interests and strengths. My favorite part of it all was the pride that each one of them took in the
drawings they were showing me. We then made our way to music where Jason (the instructor) had the
boys work with bucket drums. He challenged them to get a basic beat down working off the count he
had written on his easel. When the hard work was done, we capped the week off with a game of
musical chairs that was nothing but fun!
The two biggest hits with the group were paddle boarding and sailing. Watching some of these
campers go from having no experience with the activity at all to sailing across the water with big smiles
on their faces was the high point of the entire activity. There were even some friendships formed as the
campers were allowed to buddy up on some of the boards. Then there was sailing. During this activity,
the boys learned to right the sail in the unlikely event that it is capsized. When the tests were done, they
were able to enjoy the water and partake in their creative and imaginative water games. The counselors
and myself were even able to relax in the water. Next up, we have tennis. I can't wait to see what my
group has in store for this activity!
Sincerely,
The Gnarly Surfers Counselors

Hello Parents, Families, and Friends of The Mermaids,
It has been such an amazing first two weeks getting to
know all of the Mermaids. We are so lucky to have such an amazing group
of girls!
These first two weeks have been filled with awesome activities! The
Mermaids have gone swimming, paddle boarding, and sailing. We also got
our first tennis lesson at the Tennis Academy! By the end of our first day,
every child had made so much progress and been able to send the ball
flying over the net. We cannot wait to see what we can do by the end of
the summer!
The Mermaids have also begun learning (and rocking) two different
dance routines in dance class. We have been practicing our rhythm in
music by drumming, begun rehearsing scripts in drama, and drawn
beautifully art. Additionally, Chef shop has become a favorite activity for
many of our mermaids because of all of the yummy treats we get to cook
and eat!
We cannot wait to see what the rest of the summer brings!
