30 years experience in design, site supervision, and contracts administration of concrete and
steel structures for Buildings, Bridges, Jetties, Sea walls, Sanitation as well as Civil Works
related to buildings, including sewerage projects such as oxidation ponds and sewers.

2007 to date
. Juja University City Sewerage system - Preliminary design for this proposed project
comprising both Gravity and pressure pipes, road and river crossings, pumping stations.
Oxidation ponds and Biogas generation plant- awaiting funding, initial estimate Kshs.

.Projects for Kimathi University College of Technology(KUCT), Nyeri.
(a) Resource Center- Design and supervision : Phase 1 and 2, both complete- Roof in
reinforced concrete portal frames with spans up to 17m. Phase 3 –design complete

(c) Design of a Sewerage System:
(i)Oxidation Ponds-Preliminary Design of Oxidation Ponds for treatment for a
population of upto 10,000 students plus staff. Design and construction for done for
Phase 1 and 2 completed in May, 2010 and comprised an anaerobic, a facultative and
a maturation pond complete.
(ii) Trunk Sewer(Phase 1and 2)-

Phase 1-Design and supervision of a 1.5km long, 225 to 250mm
diameter trunk sewer, with depths of excavation up to 4.2m. Completed on time,
with savings of over 30%. Completed in April, 2009
 Phase 2- A 4 km sewer line, 160 to 50mm dia, sewer depths upto 6m. Completed
in June,2010. Savings over 20%
(iii) Rehabilitation of Old Septic Tank and Soakage area- Final design and tendering
but abandoned due to high cost.

Project engineer for Midterm review of design and construction for ‘Construction
of Kiu and Dandora Estate Trunk Sewer and Expansion of Dandora Waste Water
Treatment Plant- Sewers upto 1350mm dia, and a 2.89km 2850x1700mm box
culvert sewer, 1 no pumping station; the treatment plant consists of 11no anaerobic
ponds- cost-Kshs1.8billion- report complete

the gravity dam adopted as a type design.
2004 – 2005: 300m dia trunk sewer 550m, long including a road and aerial crossing. Invert
levels upto 5.0m in rock. I was part of the team undertaking final design and construction
on a direct labour basis.

2003 – 2006: Improvement of sanitary facilities in Halls of Residence: Lead Engineer in
rehabilitation of sanitary facilities (Complete).
Part preliminary design for JKUAT Town Campus (Nairobi) comprising lecture theatres and
rooms and laboratories, up to four storeys in reinforced concrete frame. Estimated cost:
Kshs. 300million; project abandoned.
2002-2004: Institute of Energy and Environmental Technology (IEET) Block – Project
Engineer in design evaluation and project completion for this 3 storey lecture and office
block in reinforced concrete (complete). Constructed on direct labour basis.
2002: Classroom block for computer centre – Project Engineer for this single storey block
structured on direct labour basis.
2001-2002: Commission for Higher Education Office Block (Gigiri, Nairobi). Project
Engineer for this 5 storey project, up to final design, in reinforced concrete frames
including basement parking, valued at Kshs. 315million project abandoned, revived in

2006: Foul drainage improvement for Moffat Bible College (Kijabe). Construction of

2006: Improvement of football pitch and running track for Thika Road Christian School
(Design and Supervision). Construction complete
2005 – 2007: Office block for Chancery Wright Insurance Brokers Limited (Kilimani,
Nairobi). Project Engineer for this fiver storey reinforced concrete frame building.
Completed in September 2007.
2005: 80 meter communication Tower at Mazingira, Nairobi, for Plansteel Engineering
Contractors. Project involved re-design from initial design by Ministry of Roads and
Public Works to suit locally available steel sections. (Construction complete).
2005-2007: Malava Children Centre (Kakamega District). A 300 capacity centre
for abandoned children. Mainly single storey structures, including associated civil
works. Final design complete. Client – Rock Ministries International.
2005: Kole Church Building: Church Building in Democratic Republic of Congo for Help
for Brethren Ministries of Nairobi (Design only).
2005-2006: 22No. 4 storey flats for Dr. Robert Mathenge, Mombasa Rd., Nairobi.
Completed in January 2007. (Cost estimate Kshs. 40 million).
2004-2005: New Sanctuary for Pneuma Ministries (Killimani, Nairobi) – Tent structure
constructed on steel frame. (Construction complete).
2003-2004: Pastoral Training Institute for Harvesters. Christian Centre (Umoja,
Nairobi). Reinforced concrete building upto 3 storeys, at a cost of Kshs. 50m (Design
only).
2003 – 2004: Proposed Anglican Church of Kenya Hospital at Murang’a. Main Hospital
in double storey reinforced concrete buildings, and staff-houses upto 3 storeys on
load-bearing walls. Design complete. Project estimated at Kshs. 50million awaiting

Sanctuary with seating capacity of 500 people, with a suspended balcony.

terraced balcony. Structure is in reinforced concrete, on small-diameter bored cast-in
place concrete piles founded 7m below ground level. Ground level is suspended.

houses and civil works (including junction design at main road) at a cost of Kshs. 12.0
million.
xxiv) 1999 – 2001: Secondary School Complex for St. Catherine’s Mt. View Academy
(Kasarani, Nairobi) Comprising laboratory, Kitchen/Dinning Hall, Clinic, workshop and
Office block; upto 4 storeys in reinforced concrete. (Project done in phases;
Kitchen/Dinning Hall and Laboratories completed in 2001).

Dec 2008.

(i) Numerical Machining Complex (Nairobi) – Design and detailing of steel stanchions and
gantry girders for overhead traveling cranes, including machine foundation design.
(ii) Kenya Naval Dockyard Phase II: Project Engineer for this extensive project which
comprised an extensive jetty structure including a ship lift platform, a number of
buildings and workshops. (Checked design and detailing mainly of the buildings). Team
leader of supervision team consisting of a resident Civil/Structural Engineer, Electrical,
Mechanical Engineer and an Architect.
(iii) Old Mukunguni Jetty (refendering system) – checked design and supervised construction.
(iv) Mokowe Jetty: Redesigned approach slab, refendering system and sea-wall.
(v) Lamu Terminal Jetty: Project Engineer during construction for this jetty on driven precast
concrete piles

Lamu Sea-Wall - Project Engineer for design and construction for this wall done in
phases.
(vii) Extensions to Medical Training Centres (MTC) in Mombasa, Kilifi and Malindi –

Garissa Medium Prison: Checked design for this project which comprised of buildings
upto 3 storeys and single storey reinforced concrete portal framed structures.
1983- 1990 (Prior to Registration):
Lamu Terminal Jetty as Project Engineer [See 2.1.4.(a) (iv) ].
Manda Island Jetty as Project Engineer for remedial works – consisted a 98m long
structure made of insitu concrete piers, precast concrete beams and a timber deck.
(iii) Multi-purpose hall for National Youth Service, Gilgil. Designed steel roof and
checked design for terraced balcony.
(iv)
Ministry of Works Sports Club – Preliminary design for 4-storeyed concrete
frame building – in single span frames 12m long.
(v)
Chief Mechanical and Transport Engineer (CMTE) Office Block extension –
consisted a 3 storey framed structure, to match existing block.
(vi)
Jetties at Loruk and Lekoros – comprised steel foot bridge with a timber deck and
pontoon (pontoon done by others) – design and tender documentation.
(vii) Bura bridge and approach roads – site supervision as Assistant Resident Engineer,
became resident engineer during completion. Project a 128m, 3 span cable stayed
steel structure on piled reinforced concrete piers and abutments. Did part design
of river training works comprising rock-fill gambion gryones. Redesigned the
approach roads. Project fully complete.
(viii) Old Garissa Bridge, site supervision during dismantling of this 128m steel girder
(Inglis) bridge.

Kenya Institute of Mass Communication (Nairobi). Designed the project
comprising 3 storeyed reinforced concrete frame building. Supervised foundation
construction.

Warehouse at Embakasi – Supervised completion (involved a reinforced concrete
spiral staircase, 2 suspended floors).

Standard District Headquarters – design and detailed foundations for a 4 storey
reinforced concrete framed building.

Assistant Resident.
