Position Description Title: Department: Reports to: FLSA Status: Member Services Representative Billing Manager of Administration/HR Non-Exempt POSITION SUMMARY This position provides communication/public relations related information to the membership of Sumner Cowley Electric Cooperative, Inc. This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERSONAL CONDUCT The following list is intended to describe the general nature of the basic responsibilities and conduct expected of individuals employed by Sumner-Cowley Electric Cooperative. Must be supportive to all policies and decisions set by management and the Board of Directors. Conduct oneself in such a manner as to contribute to a better understanding of the Cooperative when in contact with members or the general public, as well as maintain a harmonious relationship with all Cooperative employees. Must be able to write legibly as well as read and comprehend material, display effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to tactfully and courteously communicate with the general public and other employees. Must have good interpersonal skills and ability to get along with diverse personalities; capable of conveying a positive and professional image. Must be able to coordinate projects with other employees, as well as ability to work with and consistently meet deadlines, budgets and work on several projects simultaneously. POSITION FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES The following lists of duties are intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed by individuals assigned to this classification. Must exhibit proficiency and working knowledge of personal computer system and applicable software. Construct and maintain the Cooperative Web site. Represent the cooperative as necessary at various community events and organizations. This may require work outside of the normal hours of operation. Examples may include philanthropic organization/club meetings, school interest days, or fairs throughout the counties served. Be the Touchstone Energy Representative and attend training that pertains to the use of the Touchstone Energy brand. Implement the use of and update consistently any social media outlets available for the purpose of informing our membership of the ongoing work of the Cooperative and any pertinent information, including print, electronic and radio promotion of the cooperative. Maintain an effective and accurate filing system for documents, correspondence and any other reports that pertain to the communication techniques/effectiveness of the cooperative. Coordinate monthly submission of the Kansas Country Living magazine center spread. This may entail traveling throughout our system to report/gather information that can be used to highlight/advertise any business/family operation that is served by Sumner Cowley Electric Cooperative. Participate in planning, preparation and support of the Cooperative’s Annual Meeting and any special membership meetings and any statewide association meetings hosted by the Cooperative. Responsible for administrating the Cooperative’s Youth Tour and Scholarship programs Participate in staff meetings. Learn and comply with all Cooperative policies, rules and regulations. The Member Services Representative shall be required to perform any and all other duties assigned by the Cooperative to fulfill its objectives. ACCOUNTABILITY The Member Services Representative reports to the Manager of Administration/HR but is expected to work cooperatively with other employees in maintaining work flow efficiency and to effectively meet the Cooperative’s mission and goals. POSITION SPECIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education- Post secondary degree in public relations, journalism, communications or relevant field strongly preferred. At the sole discretion of the Cooperative’s management, experience and/or training can be substituted for the education requirements. Communication Skills- Ability to speak, read and comprehend English as the predominant language of the organization. Ability to read, write and interpret documents, reports and correspondence. Time Management Skills- Ability to plan work schedule and meet deadlines with little or no assistance. Computer and Office Equipment- Ability to use Cooperative’s computer system and software programs, which include; word processing, spreadsheets and interactive programs supplied by data processing vendor. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint; experience with Twitter, Facebook, and Internet research, and experience with design software and web development software. Experience with a digital camera preferred. Physical Qualifications- Activities include frequent sitting, operation of computer terminal, telephone operations, occasional walking, stooping/bending and kneeling. Frequent standing to operate copy machine. Frequently lifts pushes and pulls ten (10) pounds up to forty (40) pounds. Ability to reach both overhead and below shoulder level. This position requires good finger dexterity, good vision, good hearing and the ability to speak. Must be able to interact with others verbally and through written communication and perform basic mathematical calculations. Work Environment- Office Environment-exposure to moderate noise level and climatecontrolled work area. May be expected to travel outside of the office periodically. Revised: April 4, 2013
