SP3: Students will evaluate the forms and transformations of energy Essential Question/ Key Question Discuss why it is important for us (the U.S.) to try and find alternative energy sources to use to provide electricity and power needs to homes. What does the word cold mean to you? How does this meaning differ from the meaning of the word cold in science? What does the word cold mean to you? How does this meaning differ from the meaning of the word cold in science? Lesson Opener Finish Group Presentations from Project- Energy Discuss an example of the Law of Conservation of Energy that you experience in everyday life. (Make sure you discuss if your example obeys or disobeys the Law) Go over the practice covering Potential Energy and Kinetic Energy of objects. SP2: Students will evaluate the significance of energy in understanding the structure of matter and the universe. SP3: Students will evaluate the forms and transformatio ns of energy What does the word cold mean to you? How does this meaning differ from the meaning of the word cold in science? Based on the previous day’s formative assessment, one of the following will occur: Examples/Small Student will use the SmartBoard to distinguish between the different types of Heat Transfer using pictures and diagrams. (Depending on that and Wednesday’s Lesson Summary, a class discussion Kahoots will be used to review the concepts of energy and heat. RHS Weekly Lesson Plan- Physics (K. Stephens) Procedures/Strat egies Discussion- Alternative Forms of Energy (Debate between groups of students) Lab- Different Forms of Energy and the Law of Conservation of Energy Socrative Activity to review and reinforce calculating Potential and Kinetic Energy of objects. Formative Assessment (Quiz)Forms of Energy, Transformations of Energy, and Calculating Potential and Kinetic Energy of objects. group discussions covering specific Energy Topics or a whole class discussion covering what Heat is. GRQsTemperature and Heat Transfer and further examples may occur covering Heat and the Transfer of Heat) Activity- Popcorn Notes/Examples- Energy Diagrams, Specific Heat, and Heat Capacity PracticeEnergy Diagrams, Specific Heat, and Heat Capacity RHS Weekly Lesson Plan- Physics (K. Stephens) Lesson Summary Finish Lab- Different Forms of Energy and the Law of Conservation of Energy Answer to the essential question above. Students will use Kahoots to answer questions pertaining to Heat and the Transfer of Heat In groups of 2, students will draw a diagram depicting the transfer of heat in an everyday setting. Students will use an Energy Diagram using an Ipad App to complete an activity to reinforce the concepts of Energy and Heat.
