Undergraduate and Students pursuing their masters will be able to use these resources for research and to access technical information. These resources offer professional information about the field of chemistry. The resources that are featured are technical databases, scholarly journals, and professional organizations. Audience: This Internet resource guide was created for senior level and masters level petroleum engineering majors at Penn State University. Many of the resources have technical information that underclassman may not understand the extent of the documents. Also, it might not be current to the student’s studies. Students taking classes such as PNG 490, PNG440 or EME 460, will find this document guide useful because several of the classes us the featured resources. Assumptions: There is a certain understanding that the reader can understand the fundamentals and the applications of petroleum and natural gas engineering. The student should be able to use the Internet and have access to it. Finally, the reader must be moderately Internet intelligent. Organization: This Internet resource guide provides information about three different resources. These three resources show are technical databases, scholarly journals, and professional organizations. The website, including URL code, short description, and list of tips are by each site. All of the resources are reviewed for technical information and how to retrieve data. These resources are websites that will help students locate information faster for projects and demonstrations. This will improve their education. Tips: Students will be able to use the page numbers to guide them throughout the booklet. They will also be able to navigate by the table of contents. Access to Adobe Reader will benefit the readers because many articles will open within .pdf formats. 4 Internet Resource Guide Technical Databases Texas Tech University Library Location: This information is provided by the Texas Tech University Library in Lubbock, TX. The technical information provided can be downloaded to MAC and PC users using Adobe software. Description: Texas Tech University Library catalog is useful for students and faculty alike. The GEOBASE includes a worldwide resource of literature on geology and ecology. It also includes over 2,000 international journals both peer-reviewed and trade publications. It also includes GeoRef, established by the American Geological Institute (AGI) in 1966. This database provides access to information to geoscience literature around the world. GeoRef is the most comprehensive geoscience database in the world. It has more than 80,000 references added a year. Seniors in petroleum and natural gas engineer could use this source to assist them with PNG 490,491, or EME460. Tips: 1. This library database can help one search of a thousand results turn into a very narrow topic by the search tools. 2. There is a “Help” button if needed. This provides support for users that are not that technically inclined. 3. You can also refine your searches by the amount of filters you put on the search subject. 5 Internet Resource Guide Scholarly Journals Journal of the Marine and Petroleum and Geology Location:http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0264817208001153 Description: The Journal of the Marine and Petroleum and Geology is important to the shale composition and pore structure upon gas storage potential of shale gas reservoirs. It uses key words like “pore structure, micro porosity, sorption, and shale gas reservoirs” to help readers decipher the text clearly. The corresponding author and Gas Team is presented below the text as well. Unfortunately, no search tools is presented for this website, mainly the journal is used for supporting information by young professionals. As a petroleum and natural gas engineering major, this journal can provide as a great resource for projects and demonstrations. Tips: 1. Do not use the website to research a narrow topic. This journal would be better for a broader topic because of its vase technical information. 2. Know the bibliographic information of the article you want to access. 6 Internet Resource Guide Professional Organizations Society of Petroleum Engineers Location: http://www.spe.org/ Description: The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is the leading professional organization of petroleum engineers. SPE is the largest individual member organization serving managers, engineers and scientists alike worldwide in the oil and gas industry. The organization was officially founded as SPE, American Institute of Mining Engineer (AIME). SPE has become a separately incorporated since 1985. At the end of 2013, SPE has 124,528 total members. This includes more than 37,000 student members. All students get a discounted rate on yearly memberships. It costs $15 USD for one year then a professional membership fee after graduation of $20. All discussions on the publications are no judgmental and just technical competence obtaining to the publication guidelines. Overall, this is a useful resource for students pursuing petroleum and natural gas engineering degree. There is great networking opportunities, job outlets, articles, professional journals, and varies contacts. Tips: 1. Use all tabs when visiting site, this navigation is key to receive all information. Tabs of homepage and about the society can help students learn about professional organizations. 2.
