Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka Independent Study Guide
*To Be Taken Seriously
*Materials needed: computer, reader’s notebook, pen/pencil, colored pencils (optional)
(If you don’t have your reader’s notebook, you must still do the activities on a separate
sheet and put them in your notebook later.)
Housekeeping: You should get your computer out and put it back neatly. Check your cords
every single time. DO NOT LEAVE A MESS!!!! Video games and other websites are not a
part of this assignment. You really do not have time to mess around on the Internet. Don’t
let that be a problem. I have asked Mrs. Daniels to leave me a list of names of kids who can’t
use the computers as learning tools, not play toys.
The book can be found at: Because the file is a pdf, the link won’t work.

You Read” and do the Journal Activity in your reader’s notebook (RN). Go

chapter one.
4. Think about the Personal Response Question (no writing required).

8. For “Learning for Life” create a list of 8 questions in your RN.

17. Do the “Art Connection” in your RN.

about. Go over the vocabulary to prepare to read.

in your RN a slide each that you could put in a power point or keynote that
illustrates the moral lesson or lessons you think this novella might illustrate.
Your sketch should include both words and pictures.
24. Do the “Dramatic Monologue” activity from one of the other character’s point
of view. Your script should be about a half-page long. Be sure to make it
actually sound like one of the characters wrote it.
