As a young lady raised in a wealthy home Mercedes would have been taught How to play classical music, how to sing, how to draw, how to dance (ballroom dancing) how to flirt how to recite poetry how to speak French how to maintain proper etiquette (manners) how to appear dainty and delicate, NOT healthy or athletic how to marry well (a respectable man with positive financial prospects). how to hire and manage the cook, maids, seamstresses and nanny how to dress appropriately for any occasion how to convince the men in her life (father, husband, brother) to do what she wants, while assuring the men that they are in charge and must take care of her.
