Description
This course is a study of basic psychological principles of supervision and
organizational dynamics. Emphasis is placed on people skills and general human
relation techniques in the workplace. This course will not satisfy any Associate in
Arts or Associate in Science degree requirements.

None

Vandeveer & Menefee. Human Behavior in Organizations. Pearson/Prentice
Hall. Edition: 2e. ISBN: 9781256147688.
Self-assessment Library: An access code is included with texts purchased
through TCTC Campus Store. Students purchasing a book through other outlets
will be responsible for purchasing an access code through Blackboard/Pearson at
the start of the semester.

Competencies
1.
Demonstrate an understanding of self at work, using organizational psychology concepts of
personality, values, attitudes, motivation and stress.
2.
Demonstrate an expanded understanding of other people in groups using organizational
psychology concepts of motivation, leadership, communication, conflict and negotiation.
3.
Apply organizational psychology concepts to understand organizational employment policies,
including how modern organizations recruit, hire, train, and evaluate employees.
4.
Apply organizational psychology theories to understand organizational behavior, including culture,
power and politics, ethics, and organizational change.

More specifically, there will be at least three unit exams and a final exam. There will be at least one
writing assignment graded on content and English composition, counting at least 10% of the course
grade. The remainder of the grading scheme and the nature of the writing assignment(s) will be
determined by the instructor and will be explained at the outset of the course. The policy regarding
make-up exams is determined by the instructor and will be explained at the outset of the course.
