Course Plan, 8 th grade Spanish 1B
Spring 2014
Mrs. Brown-Lemley
Capítulo 8, En la tienda
January 8- February 14
In this chapter we will learn vocabulary used when shopping including clothing items, store types, telephone phrases and gift items. In the grammar we will conjugate the stem change verb costar , use numbers over 100, and make comparisons while using demonstrative adjectives. Students will also review the rules for verbs that require indirect object pronouns with the verb quedar (le). Our exam for this unit will also serve as a course benchmark to guide final exam preparation at the end of the course.
Capítulo 9, El pretérito February 19- March 18
This unit will introduce the students to the conjugation of verbs in the preterit. Vocabulary will include review topics, especially those from the calendar unit last year that relate to celebrations.
¡Fiesta!
March 20
To match the theme of the previous unit we will have a class celebration in which we will replicate the foods, music and games enjoyed in Hispanic culture.
Parents are welcome to attend!
¡A viajar! March 21-April 17
This is a bonus unit in which students will work with travel vocabulary and continue learning how to use the past tense. Many of these words and grammar topics will be helpful at the beginning of Honors or Regular Spanish 2 at the high school.
Final Exam Review April 21- May 2
Using data collected from the Chapter 8 Test/Benchmark we will review for the final exam. This is also CRCT time, so our class will be flexible to allow students to focus on the state test while dealing with previously covered topics.
Final Exam May 5-9
This test is the same test that is given at the end of Spanish 1 at the high school. It typically takes 2-3 days to complete all parts, but given our shorter class period a week has been planned for its administration. There will be a speaking portion to be recorded in a computer lab, a writing prompt and 70 multiple choice questions covering reading comprehension, listening comprehension, grammar and vocabulary and cultural understanding
Review/Preview and Summer Assignment May 19-23
During this time we will discuss expectations for Spanish 2 and preview and/or review topics that will be important to understand at the beginning of
Honor’s Spanish 2. For those students choosing to continue on with the Honor’s track at the high school we will also look at what is expected in the Summer
Assignment.
