Chabot College July 1995 Course Outline for Spanish 50A CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH Catalog Description: 50A - Conversational Spanish 2 units Development of a basic understanding of spoken Spanish through pronunciation, vocabulary, and applied grammar and an introduction to the everyday culture of Spanish-speaking people. 3 hours. Expected Outcomes for Students: Upon completion of the course, the student should: 1. have developed a practical knowledge of Spanish conversational methods of construction presented; 2. understand and be able to apply to daily regular use the learned vocabulary, idiomatic expressions and essential grammar presented; 3. have the ability to understand, pronounce and spell correctly the practical vocabulary presented; 4. be able to read and comprehend the material of the basic textbook; 5. be capable of answering and asking simple questions in Spanish, in the form of a conversation; and 6. have begun to develop an understanding and appreciation of the cultures and peoples of the Spanish-speaking world. Course Content: 1. Functional vocabulary and grammar to allow structures to: a. identify themselves in the target language (name, age, nationality, place of birth, profession or occupation); b. order food and drink in restaurants and buy food in shops and markets; c. greet others, make introductions, take leave, and express appreciation.
