News & Notes
April 23rd – April 27th
Theme: Planting and the Letter Jj
Children had a blast this week with our zoo theme. They had so much fun watching a few of the live
cams at the San Diego zoo too. Here is the website to keep up with the animals at home: www.sandiegozoo.org
click on San Diego Zoo, then click on video and then choose an animal cam! We have discovered the elephants
are the most active of all animals! But we were able to see the panda, baby condor, and polar bear. We also
explore google maps this week to find out where in the world San Diego zoo was and how long it would take to
get there by car!
I can’t believe May is just around the corner. Wow only 5 more weeks of school! You know what they
say April Showers bring May Flowers so this week we will be working on Planting! Children will have fun planting
a Garden in a Glove and watching the seed grow roots and leaves. Once we send these home your children can
plant them in soil and they should be able to continue growing! In the glove we will plant tomato, pumpkin, corn,
cucumber and eggplant seeds. Children will also be planting a surprise for a very special day and a very special
person, coming up soon. (hint: Mom) In our last center this week children will be painting water color flowers.
Don’t forget to celebrate Earth Day this Sunday April 22nd! Have a great weekend!
Monday-Today the children will be able to explore our centers for the week and learn about the parts
of a plant. We will watch a youtube video of a seed changing into a plant. We will read Seeds.
Tuesday- We will introduce the letter Jj today! The children will play the letter Jj on www.starfall.com
We will read Roots.
Wednesday- Don’t forget to send back your library books! We will be reading Leaves! We will play a
game on starfall called Let’s Recycle and discuss and color our growing a garden book.
Thursday- We will watch the Letter Jj on alphatales today and also think of some items we could bring
for show-n-tell tomorrow. We will talk about the lifecycle of a plant and will read Flowers.
Friday- Letter Jj show-n-tell!! We will also read, Seeds, Seeds, Seeds.
