 Separation of Powers (3 branches)
 Legislative – makes laws
 Executive – enforces laws
 Judicial – judges if laws are constitutional

 Checks and Balances
 Legislative makes laws, but Executive has to
sign them to approve them.
 Executive can veto laws, but the Legislative
can override the veto.
 Executive picks the Judicial branch members,
but the Legislative has to approve the pick.
 Legislative makes laws, but Judicial can
cancel them if they are unconstitutional.
