Welcome to Mr. Willard’s Classroom! Always enter the classroom silently and sit in your appropriate seat and get started. SILENTLY! In homeroom you should read a book, catch up on homework, or study. In science you should begin immediately by pulling out your INB and beginning your sponge. Welcome to Mr. Willard’s Classroom! Lets talk about some classroom rules. The classroom is silent unless you ask or are given permission to speak. Raise your hand to get permission! You should be respectful towards everyone and their property at all times. You should not have out food, gum, or drinks in class without permission. You should not have out electronic devices at any time without permission. Your phone should be off! If you need to speak to me you should raise your hand and practice patience. Welcome to Mr. Willard’s Classroom! Now lets talk about some classroom consequences. The 1st time any rule is broken you will have silent lunch. The 2nd time any rule is broken you will have another silent lunch and a call home. The 3rd time any rule is broken you will have another silent lunch, another call home, and team isolation. The 4th time any rule is broken you will be referred to the assistant principal. SCIENCE INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK (AKA: the INB) “Your Key To Success in Science” = Presented by Jerry Willard Have you ever heard yourself say?... Your INB is the ANSWER!!! What is an INB? The purpose of your interactive notebook (INB) is to collect, record, and organize your science information in a creative way, all while creating a PERSONALIZED DIARY of your science learning. This notebook is designed to use both your right and left-brain hemispheres to help you SORT, CATEGORIZE, REMEMBER, and creatively interact with the new knowledge you are gaining. Your INB will also serve as a great tool to help you stay ORGANIZED. The best part is that it gives you permission to be playful and CREATIVE in your responses without "messing up" your notes. Allows you be like a REAL SCIENTIST! Real Scientists Use Notebooks! Charles Darwin: developed the theory of evolution Leonardo DaVinci: artist and inventor Albert Michelson: physicist What you will need EVERYDAY: • One COMPOSITION Notebook with 100 pages • 3 Glue sticks or rubber cement • Erasable Pens/Pencil • Colored Pencils ONLY!!! NO MARKERS, NO CRAYONS (they bleed!) What you will DO EVERYDAY: On BOTH sides, you should ALWAYS WRITE: DATE, TITLE and PAGE NUMBER 1 2 8/6/14 How to use my INB 8/6/14 How to use my INB The notebook is divided into TWO sections. 1 2 8/6/14 How to use my INB • LEFT SIDE = ODD PAGES • • • • • • • 8/6/14 How to use my INB • RIGHT SIDE = EVEN PAGES Sponge: Each day you will write the • Work Period CRCT sponge for the day and answer it. Getting Started: Step 1 For the front of your INB… • The name of the course: 7th Grade Life Science Interactive Science Notebook • Your name: (self explanatory) • The class period that you have science: – Ex. Period 1 • Your teacher: Mr. Willard • The school year: 2014-2015 • TWO OR MORE SCIENCE PICTURES: – You can draw, get them from a magazine or print from the Internet. Author Page You will create your author’s page on the inside of the front cover of your INB. It should be neat and creative! 1. Choose one word from the IB Learner Profile Pillar that describes you. 2. Choose two more words from the IB Learner Profile Pillar that describe traits that you would like to work on for the year. 3. A picture of you. 4. Include pictures of things that describe you (such as your hobbies, favorite sports, or other interests). What your author page might look like… Get Started! Now that you have the instructions of what to do, begin designing you cover page and author page. You will turn them in at the end of class and I will pass them back out to you when we meet again. Remember to bring your notebook and all other materials tomorrow as we will put it all together! Getting Started: Step 2 Starting with the 1st page, number the first 50 pages.
