Living in this coed community house provides an opportunity to live and work with other students who are committed to the campus’ goal of becoming more sustainable through the giving of time and effort dedicated to awareness and activism. Location? The Eco-House is located at 1610 Moore Street and houses 12 students, one of whom is the programing coordinator. Amenities? The Eco-House is a building originally set up as a duplex, with renovated attic. It has two kitchens and two living rooms, two porches, three bathrooms and a few closets for storage. Residents have access to the lawn and garden. There are 4 (four) parking spaces dedicated to the house. All dishes are washed by hand. There are no laundry machines in the house; however residents may use any of the residence halls. And, the house is furnished with resident artwork and furniture. House Expectations & Requirements? Our place at 1610 Moore Street houses a community. We invite you to “Live Here” and be a part of the community. The true capacity of the house lies within and among its residents. There is an informal yet important expectation to clean up after oneself, certainly in regards to common spaces and one’s dishes and the inevitable cooking messes that precede them. In our house, the Golden Rule is also the greenest rule. In addition to the informal expectations, Residents must be willing to assist with the brainstorming, planning, preparation, and Please return to Emily Evey, Eco-House 1 execution of large events such as carpooling to Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center, Fall Festivals, Pizza and Movie Night, etc. and/or smaller events such as weekly dinner discussions. The concept of “Being a Gift” is related to our educational and fun responsibility to the public and each other to share what we are doing and stimulate a collective conscious about how we are living. The “Love the Earth” piece of the mission statement is directed toward environmental awareness and low impact lifestyles. All house members have the distinct privilege of converging for the weekly HOUSE MEETING during which problems can be solved and plans made. Please keep in mind that you are not expected to have any or all of these skills upon entrance into the house, just a willingness to learn. A personal reflection journal piece may be requested at the end of each semester. Please note that residency privileges may be revoked at any time if a resident does not adhere to the policies and requirements outlined above.
