Annual Report 2011
Main Events 2011
During 2011 the MIT Club of Spain has led and /or organized a number of
events, covering a broad range of academic, business and social goals and
themes.
Lunch with Ana Palacio
Our Ryder Club partner Club of Chicago has invited the MIT Club of Spain to
participate in a lunch event with Ana Palacio last March 21st at Mrs. Palacio’s
home in Madrid. The theme of the discussion was "La Politica Exterior en
España: cuál es deseable y cuál es posible".
Lunch with Placido Fajardo
Placido Fajardo, Partner at Leaders Trust International, a leading senior
recruiting firm, joined us for lunch last April 6th in Madrid. Mr. Plácido is a
reference in Human Resources in Spain and the debate focused on the
importance of managing the cycle in career development, a topic of particular
importance in times of uncertainty like the ones we’re going through.
Summer Party 2011
This year, the Summer Party took place in the very special Hipodromo de la
Zarzuela in Madrid, on July 9th. The warm summer night, the wonderful venue,
the presence of colleagues, friends and family and tasty food and drinks…
these were the ingredients of a unforgettable event of the MIT Club of Spain.
Some of us ended up betting and cheering during the horse races, and rumour
has it that someone went home with a few extra cash in his pocket.
Extraordinary General Assembly Meeting
On the same day, we celebrated an Extraordinary General Assembly meeting.
The single point on the agenda was the election of a new Executive Board. The
new team includes:

The Club’s Finance
In terms of the Club’s finance, you can find below a cash balance and the key
movements during 2011. We have increased the base of contributing members and
maintained the fee flat from the previous year, particularly in light of the
macroeconomic environment and as an incentive for further enrollment.
As in 2009 and 2010, we have invested significantly in subsidizing event costs to
ensure increased participation from members. We have continued to invest in
administrative support to ensure quality of our service and response to members’
requests, while at the same time providing support to the management team. We
would like to take this opportunity to thank Marta Mora for all the energy and
enthusiasm she has dedicated to the Club in the past year.
Overall, the financial position of the Club remains strong. The team is committed to
ensure the long term financial sustainability of the Club.
