Regional Advanced Agriculture Industry College and Career Academy
Quarterly Report, March 29th, 2013
Mission and Goals
o
Just restate your mission and goals from your application – or if they have changed,
state the revised ones. (These should match the mission and goals in your charter.)
The mission and goals have remained the same.
Mission: To graduate independent productive citizens by preparing students for college and careers.
Goals:
1. To increase student achievement- decrease the number of graduates who require remedial
courses at the college level
2. To increase student aspirations and commitment- increase the number of graduates who
complete technical college/college
3. To focus on college and careers- increase the number of graduates whose skills satisfy
employers

Need
o

Unless something has changed, or you have developed additional plans for continuous
needs assessment, no comment necessary here.
Partnerships
o
Feel free to brag about any new or strengthened partnerships here.
We have strengthened our partnership with Athens Technical College. Ongoing meetings have
addressed program needs, facility plans, barriers to dual enrollment, student recruitment, and
COMPASS testing/preparation.
We met with the manager of fabrication for the new Caterpillar plant to discuss training needs, facility
plans, apprenticeship opportunities, and possible visits to training sites in other states.
We have formed a new partnership with ACTION, Inc., who oversees WIA activities in the region. This
partnership may be able to provide financial assistance to qualifying students to help with tuition,
fees, books, and other educational costs.
Neighboring communities have contacted Madison County Schools for more information about the
CCA partnership and the possibility of joining the partnership.
We have formed a business/community member guest speaker database that will be distributed
throughout the Madison County School System after Spring Break. The list of volunteers were drawn
from the letters of commitment submitted in the grant application.

Budget
o

Nothing may be needed here, but if you have any additional budget information that
you would like to share, feel free to do so (please do not use this report to ask for funds.)
Governance & Leadership
o
Is you board up and running? (If so, who are the members?) Have you had any
meetings?
The governance team has not yet been formed. However, our steering committee has been meeting
once a month to make sure that all grant activities are on track. All notes and communication are
posted on the website for the public to view.

Timelines
o This one needs to be addressed to include any necessary adjustments to your timeline?
There have been no adjustments to the timeline. We hope to open the doors to the CCA in the Fall of
2014.

Career & College Focus/Dual Enrollment
o Please list out what planned Dual Enrollment courses have been agreed upon
with your post-secondary partner(s). If you are still in “negotiations”, please
provided those details.
o
This is also a good space to update us on Work-based Learning opportunities being
established as part of your Academy efforts.
For the 2013-2014 school year, we have agreed to offer the Criminal Justice Fundamentals TCC, Health
Care Career pathway courses, the Marketing Specialist TCC, English 1101, English 1102, Math 1111,
and Math 1113. Negotiations for future dual enrollment offerings will be ongoing.

Grade Levels
o
What grades levels are you planning to start and when?
The CCA will impact 8th through 12th grade students. A group of upcoming 8th graders will pilot the
Basic Agriculture class for high school credit during the next school year. Also, we are planning and
implementing 9th grade physical science in the middle school next year.

Enrollment & Student Focus
o
Please describe your established enrollment process.
Any Madison County High School student may enroll in CCA CTAE coursework. Upcoming 11 th or 12th
graders who earn qualifying scores on the COMPASS, SAT, or ACT may enroll in dual enrollment
coursework. Any interested upcoming 8th grader who earns passing scores on their CRCTs may
participate in the accelerated enrollment courses at Madison County Middle School. Enrollment for
students from partner school districts has not yet been established for the 2013-2014 school year.

Student Support
o
It may be too early to have done anything here – but if you already worked on
counseling services, mentoring… this is the place to say so!
We have reached out to community partners who pledged to support the CCA to request specific
information that will help when implementing these support structures.

Standards & Curriculum
o
Have you started any advisory committees yet? How is your instructional design system
working (ADDIE or similar)?
Existing advisory committees are already in place. Their roles and responsibilities will be examined
and adjusted as needed to ensure their genuine involvement in curriculum evaluation for the
upcoming school year. Instructors have begun to analyze potential changes to clusters/pathways and
the new foundational courses for each pathway that will soon be voted on by the state board.
If the new clusters and courses are approved, we will re-examine our pathway progression chart and
make adjustments as needed.

Structure
o

You may not have any comment about this yet - unless you have already been doing
something to give the academy its “own culture”.
Faculty & Staff
o
Describe any work that may have been done regarding job descriptions, professional
development plans, and common planning time. Again, it may be too soon to address
this.
We have hired a half-time work-based learning coordinator to remove classroom and grading
responsibilities from our CTAE Director. The CTAE Director has also shifted school-wide testing
supervisor responsibilities to another administrator. The CTAE Director has been named as the Interim
CEO of the CCA by the Madison County Board of Education.
We have contacted Thom Suddreth about scheduling Ford PAS/NGL professional development
sessions for the beginning of the next school year. We plan to carry out these sessions before school
starts so that the strategies may be embedded in our instructors’ professional development plans for
the new school year.

Evaluation
o
Probably no data to share yet!

Cycle of Improvement
o

If you have given any thought to getting feedback from stakeholders, and/or continuous
improvement, include your comments here. It may be too soon to respond to this one
too.
Charter School Law
o
Please describe your Charter School status. If not yet approved, when do you expect to
have your charter approved?
On July 1, 2012, Madison County Schools began operating as an approved Charter System.
