Real-Time Passenger Information (RTPI) System
• Over £5million system with over 350 buses fitted (First and
Stagecoach) [40% ERDF funded]
• Bus Investment Fund (BIF) from Transport Scotland
 BIF 1 – £1m for fitment of 101 buses with initial development of
software for small operators
 BIF 2 – £500k for 30 additional vehicles and further
development of software for small operators
 BIF 3 - £500k for Digital Signage in public buildings (schools,
leisure centres, hospitals etc.)
• Scottish Enterprise bid worth £500k still being considered
Current Fitment Schedule
• SEStran is aiming to be able to accept scheduled data from all
smaller operators by this summer
• Stagecoach are currently rolling out their own AVL system
which will be completed by the end of the year
• This update, will enable SEStran to accept Vehicle Monitoring
(VM) feeds from smaller operators
• In addition, the entire First Group fleet in South-East Scotland
will be fitted by the end of the year

The Initiative
• Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI) – live
bus feeds for nearby stops.
• Incorporate advertisements, newsfeeds,
weather feeds, etc.
• LED digital TV (42” or 55”)
• Small computer, HDMI cable &
wireless keypad;
• 3 year call-out warranty;
‘No Obligation’ Free Trial
• One month ‘no obligation’ free trial;
• Customer feedback after trial completion;
• Option to remove kit or continue with a 3 year
contract;
• Annual fee charged after the first year;
• Trial can take place using customer’s existing
TV screens.
Responsibility of Equipment
SEStran
Customer
Equipment is provided free of charge.
Customer is responsible for installation of
the equipment.
Equipment is owned by SEStran
throughout.
Responsibility & security of the
equipment onsite lies with the consumer.
System is maintained by SEStran.
Customer can manage their own content
(e.g. advertisements/ newsfeeds).
Software issues controlled remotely
(through our consultant WYG).
Customer supplies internet connection
and power source.
Fees
• No fee to pay in the first 12 months.
• Second year onwards:
– £250 p.a per screen;
– £100 p.a per additional screen with identical
layouts;
– £250 p.a per additional screen with different
layouts.
• Fee contributes to maintaining data feed not
the physical equipment.
