Secret Friend Activity
You have been given a secret friend, you might not know this person a lot
and you might feel relatively neutral toward him/her we’re going to call this
person your “Secret Friend”. This unit I want you to reflect (and sometimes
act) on the following prompts:
On the first day, notice something you have in common with your secret
friend and write your reflections down in a journal you send to me.
On the second day, notice something that’s different and write your
reflections down in a journal you send to me.
On the 3rd day, notice something you really like about the person, something
you admire or aspire towards, and write your reflections down in a journal
you send to me.
On the 4th day, silently (and secretly) send kindness to your secret friend and
notice what comes up in your mind and body in response. Write your
reflections down in a journal you send to me.
On the 5th day, consider whether there is anything about your secret friend
that bugs you, or that you think would annoy you were you to spend much
time with him or her. Write those reflections down in a journal you send to
me.
Next week in school, give your secret friend a compliment based on
something real and tangible, in other words, a compliment that comes from
what you learned this past week reflecting on his or her qualities. Write
those reflections down in a journal too and send it to me.
Next day in school, offer a seemingly random act of kindness to your secret
friend. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture. It can be something small, like
clearing his or her plate after lunch or offer help in class or perhaps carry
his/her bag to the buss if it’s heavy. Finally you write down your reflections
in a journal you send to me I also like you to share who were your secret
friend and how it made you feel when he or she gave you compliments or
offered help to you.
Good luck Ms.Wistrom
