Please allow at least 30 days for your application to be processed. STEPS TO THE SALES PROCESS APPLICATIONS Call 816 513-9020 to arrange for an interior inspection of the property. The applicant will need to inspect and note conditions that need to be repaired. Complete a Residential Property Purchase Application for each parcel you are requesting. The application must include a detailed description of how needed repairs will be completed and documentation to establish that the applicant has financing or sufficient resources to complete the repairs. All conditions that are violations of Kansas City’s Property Maintenance and Nuisance Codes must be corrected. Up to $20,000 may be available from the KCMHA if needed to make it feasible to complete the repairs. State how much of the funds will be required. Note: These funds are available only for houses that were donated to the KCMHA by the Bank of America. The application must include an offer price for the property as is, the estimated cost of repairs, and the price the property will be offered at when the project is completed. Or, if the applicant intends to occupy the property at the end of the project, the application must include the offer price and estimated cost of repairs. Submit the completed application to our office. Include a copy of your state driver’s license or state ID (all applicants). It will not be processed if not entirely completed. APPLICATION REVIEW The application is reviewed within 30 days from the date it was submitted. Staff will review the offers and submit a recommendation for the KCMHA Board to consider. The Board may accept an offer, counter-offer, or deny an offer. Applicants will be notified of the date and time of the Board meeting so they can attend to answer questions regarding their application. Preference will be given to applications that lead to owner occupancy of the house. The next preference is then to applications that provide the highest return to the KCMHA. Staff will contact the applicants to inform them of the Board’s decision and to explain any options they may have at that point. The property will be transferred to the successful applicant with conditions attached to ensure that the property is repaired and marketed or occupied as described in the application. If for any reason the offer was not accepted, staff will call or mail a letter with an explanation. Homesteading Authority Application Supplemental Information In addition to completing the Homesteading Authority Residential Property Purchase Application, the following additional information is required as part of the proposal: 1. A line-item comprehensive list of repairs to be made by discipline (plumbing, electrical, drywall, carpentry, etc.) which is to include dollar amounts for each repair, totals for each discipline and a grand total of all repairs. 2. A proposal from a licensed insured contractor that substantiates the work to be completed and dollar amount of repair work is required for each discipline. 3. How will the repairs be financed? 4. If approved, how soon after approval with the repairs be completed? (Maximum time allowed is 120 days). 5. What will happen to the property once repairs are complete? 6. What dollar amount offer (if any) will be made for the acquisition of the property? 7. Applications must be delivered in person to 4900 Swope Parkway, 2nd floor. At the time of submittal, a copy of the applicant’s driver’s license will be made. 8. All of the above supplemental information including the the Property Purchase Application must be received by the closing date for the application to be considered by the board.
