Introduction This booklet contains all the information you will need regarding your welcome week into the Faculty of Health & Human Sciences starting on Monday 21 September 2015. Please take the time to read its contents before you arrive. 2. Welcome Week Activities During welcome week you should use the time available to familiarise yourself with your new surroundings, meet other trainees and find out more about your course of study. There are certain activities that will be undertaken in week one, which will include; introduction to library services and programme specific sessions. During the week you will be asked to complete a number of forms, some of which may require duplication of information. Please be patient as we have to provide data to a number of different sources this is unavoidable and we apologise in advance. The welcome week is a non-teaching week and details of the first session on Monday 21 September 2015 are shown below: Session Venue Time Welcome and Meet the Programme Team Rolle 006, Drake Circus, Plymouth 10am A map of the campus can be downloaded from http://www1.plymouth.ac.uk/studentgateway The first session will start promptly so please make sure you are not late. If for some reason you are delayed please contact Programme Administration on 01752 586701 and let them know. If you arrive later than 10am then please report to Programme Administration, School of Psychology, 4th Floor, Rolle Building, Plymouth University Campus. A complete timetable of the week has been posted on the student gateway website. You will need to follow your programme closely to ensure that you do not miss any specific activities. It is expected that you will attend all sessions. Teaching takes place from Monday 28 September 2015. Failure to attend registration may result in late payment of any financial support for which you have qualified. You will also be unable to collect your ID card, join the library, students’ union or more importantly, start your course. University registration is a staged process and begins with: 3.1 Enrolment The first stage you will be required to complete the enrolment process to enable you to become a ‘live’ student at Plymouth University and access MOODLE as well as your email accounts. You will need to complete online enrolment and upload your photograph for your Student Card. It is important that you do this by the deadline as your computing account and identity card cannot be created until you have enrolled. 3.2 Self Declaration Form As it is some time since you completed your application from we request all students to complete a self declaration form to ensure all our records are correct. The form also asks you to confirm there has been no change to your Disclosure and Barring Service or Occupational Health status. Please complete this form and bring it with you to the registration session on Tuesday 22 September 2015. The form can be found in the Clinical Psychology folder on the student gateway website. 200114/15 Induction DClinPsy 4 3.6 NUS Card You can apply online for your Plymouth University Student Union card by accessing www.upsu.com. Once you have enrolled and received your University card you can collect your NUS card from the student union. 4. Placements Practice placements are an essential component of ALL health related degrees and account for a large proportion of your programme. Placements are central to the curriculum as a means of achieving programme outcomes namely, fitness for award, practice and purpose. 4.1 Placement Planning and Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Checks Your employing NHS Authority, Taunton and Somerset NHS Trust will have already been in contact with you about your DBS checks. In addition a web based “one stop shop” known as poppi is available to provide supporting information. Trainees with Disabilities Help for students and trainees who have a disability may be available in the form of The Disabled Student’s Allowance (DSA). The DSA can cover costs arising from attending your course, which have to be a direct result of your disability. You can find out further information on DSA allowances by contacting our Disability Assist Department via http://www.plymouth.ac.uk/disability or by phoning 01752 587676. 6. Timetables You will be shown how to access your timetable during welcome week. Timetables are amended electronically and you must check them regularly. It is your responsibility to check for any changes. 7. Finances Your salary and expenses are paid by Taunton and Somerset NHS Trust, details given in Section 4. 8. Catering Facilities There are plenty of catering facilities on campus offering a range of options. Details can be found on the student gateway website. 9. Car Parking Unfortunately there are no car parking spaces available for trainees on the campus unless you are registered disabled, and in possession of a blue badge. 200114/15 Induction DClinPsy 6 10. Accommodation At some point during your course teaching commitments may make it necessary for you to stay overnight in Plymouth. More information regarding travel, accommodation and expenses will be provided during your welcome week. Plymouth has a lot of small hotels and guest houses very close to the campus and the city centre. To assist you please see below the information for the Plymouth Tourist Centre and a few hotels already recommended by existing and previous trainees.
