Course Description:
This course broadens students’ understanding of mathematics as it relates to managing data. Students will apply methods for organizing and analysing large amounts of information; solve problems involving probability and statistics; and carry out a culminating investigation that integrates statistical concepts and skills. Students will also refine their use of the mathematical processes necessary for success in senior mathematics. Students planning to enter university programs in business, the social sciences, and the humanities will find this course of particular interest..

Final Exam
As stated in the Ontario Mathematics Curriculum (2008), the four categories (knowledge, inquiry, communication, and application) should be considered as interrelated, reflecting the wholeness and interconnectedness of learning. Based on the overall expectation, one or more of the categories will be more emphasized.
Learning Skills:
The provincial report card provides a record of the learning skills you demonstrated in this course under the following categories: Responsibility, Organization, Independent Work, Collaboration, Initiative and Self-Regulation .
Students performance in each of these skills will be reported separately except in cases where a specific learning skill is one of the expectations of the course. It should be noted that better achievement of the Learning Skills often corresponds to better academic achievement.
Missed Tests and Missed Assignment Policy
Students will be given reasonable time to prepare for tests and complete assignments. It is the student’s responsibility to write tests on time and submit assignments on the due date. Students who cannot meet the due date must discuss and negotiate an alternate date with the teacher . Consideration will be given providing it does not give them an unfair advantage over the other students. A mark of zero will be assigned to all work submitted after the assignment is returned to the class. Students should refer to the Orchard Park Culture of Responsibility Policy found on the school website.
Homework
Regular homework is a fundamental part of each math class. Students should expect approximately thirty minutes of math homework each day. Homework will be checked for completion and will be collected for evaluation and assessment on a regular basis.
Plagiarism
Students should be familiar with the Orchard Park Plagiarism and Documentation Policy found on the school website.
