Chair 4 Undergraduate Rate of Pay Scheduled Hours Stipend of $1000 per semester per course; $10 per hour for tutoring 1 week of required meetings and trainings, 16 weeks of classes, and 1 week of finals For a 3 credit weekly course, that would be 3 hours of class, and 1.6 hours of grading and recording worksheets and quizzes Total of 5.6 hours per week per course Graduate Rate of Pay Scheduled Hours Stipend of $1800 per semester per course; $12 per hour for tutoring 1 week of required meetings and trainings, 16 weeks of classes, and 1 week of finals For a 3 credit weekly course, that would be 3 hours of class, 1.3 hours of preparation, 3 hours of grading and recording worksheets and quizzes, and 1 hour of meeting with students or holding review sessions Total of 8.3 hours per week per course Job Description Job summary You will be assisting the instructor of record in the classroom. This may include assisting students in group projects in the classroom; assisting students individually on worksheets in the classroom; supervised grading of quizzes and homework; preparation of group projects, worksheets, and homework problems; entering class information on web-based systems; delivering lectures; and other work as prescribed by the instructor of record. 5 Job Description Summary of essential job functions Read and follow the course syllabus and course policies. Help students during lecture. Grade student work as directed by Instructor of Record. Enter student grades as directed by Instructor of Record in a prompt fashion. Proctor in-class assessments. Check email daily. Be prepared and organized. Punctual to classes and meetings. Attend all staff meetings and in-service trainings. Act in a professional manner at all times. Complete additional duties as assigned by the Faculty Assistant Coordinator. 6 Job Description Minimum requirements Undergraduate Students: Must be an FGCU enrolled student and take a minimum of 3 credits hours during the semester you are working. Should have at least Junior standing. Have completed MAC 2311 and STA 2023 or equivalent Have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 (preferably 3.5) Have a cumulative math course GPA of at least 3.5 (preferably 4.0) Graduate Students: Must be an FGCU enrolled student in the MS in Mathematics program and take a minimum of 3 credit hours during the semester you are working. Have at least 10 credits hours of mathematics beyond calculus, preferably including some linear algebra, abstract algebra, and advanced calculus. Have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 (preferably 3.5) Have a cumulative math course GPA of at least 3.5 (preferably 4.0) 7 Types of Instructional Assistant Assignments MAT 1033 – Intermediate Algebra MAC 1105 – College Algebra MAC 2233 – Elementary Calculus STA 2023 – Statistical Methods Grader Tutor 8 Tutoring Center and CAA The Department of Mathematics currently uses Holmes Engineering Room 202 for tutoring. Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 1 pm until 5 pm. CAA also offers tutoring Main Campus Monday – Thursday: 9 am until 12 pm Housing Monday – Thursday: 6 pm until 9 pm Sunday – 7 pm until 9 pm 9 Supervision Rob Nichols is the direct supervisor Faculty evaluate Instructional Assistants every semester. Your evaluations are used to inform summary evaluations from the Faculty Assistant Coordinator. Job Continuations and Dismissals are made every semester. New Instructional Assistants are hired at the end of the Spring Semester and during the Summer as need arises. 10 Performance & Discipline Policy The three-tiered system allows for the uniformity of disciplinary consequences, resulting in an objective disciplinary system. Documented reports and/or observation of violations will be used to monitor employee performance. The violation may be in the form of a verbal notice or a written notice. The Student Assistant will be notified of the violation immediately or within 48 hours following the situation.
