ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF HEALTHCARE SERVICES POSTING: Baldy Hughes Therapeutic Community is a premier therapeutic community in Canada catering to men suffering from addiction disorders. The organization is currently seeking talented, innovative and dynamic professionals to fill the following position that is available as part of an on-going healthcare augmentation initiative: Assistant Director of Healthcare Services (1 position) Summary Reporting to the Director of Healthcare Services, and working as part of an interdisciplinary team, the Assistant Director of Healthcare Services will work closely with management and an interdisciplinary team to ensure that our client-centric care programs are delivered in accordance with organization policies and guidelines. The Assistant Director of Healthcare Services will assist with the planning, organizing, directing and evaluating of the delivery of health care services at Baldy Hughes. Duties and responsibilities include overseeing day to day health services, equipment, programs and supplies. Typical Duties and Responsibilities The Assistant Director of Healthcare Services will work directly with senior management of the organization by assisting in and coordinating the following areas: Plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the delivery of health care services Consult with senior managers to maintain and establish standards for the provision of health care services Develop evaluation systems to monitor the quality of health care given to clients Monitor the use of diagnostic services, client beds and facilities to ensure effective use of resources Develop and implement plans for new programs, special projects, new material and equipment acquisitions and future staffing levels in their department or establishment Recruit and supervise healthcare staff Participate in the client intake and screening process Qualifications A. Education, Training and Experience RN or RPN diploma plus a minimum of five years MHSU nursing experience or a baccalaureate degree in nursing plus a minimum of five years MHSU nursing experience. A minimum of two years of experience supporting clients with substance use issues in a community setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Registration with the College of Nurses of British Columbia or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of British Columbia. Current CPR certification required. Knowledge of Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) model; assessment and treatment and case management methodologies; including motivational interviewing. Knowledge of relevant legislation. Knowledge of community MHSU programs, services, resources and promotion. Knowledge of other health disciplines (including primary care physicians) and their role in client care. B. Skills and Abilities Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing; Demonstrated ability to use the nursing process in mental health treatment programs i.e. such as assess (physical, mental/physiological/functional and environmental), plan, implement, make decisions, organize, prioritize, evaluate and communicate as required; Ability to administer and monitor the side effects of psychotropic medications; Ability to work independently in a community setting; Ability to work effectively and cooperatively in a team environment; Demonstrated ability to practice initiative, good interpersonal, crisis intervention, leadership and teaching skills, and effective communication and counseling with individuals, families and groups; and demonstrated critical thinking and problem solving skills; Ability to manage aggressive behaviour and to use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioural management techniques where appropriate; Ability to adapt and accept change as the program evolves; Physical ability to perform the duties of the job; Ability to operate related equipment. Experience in addiction treatment and mental health is required for all positions.
