Dear Parent/Guardian and Marketing Student,
WELCOME to the marketing program at Timberline. Students have the option of following a course of study that can be up to 3 years. The usual progression of classes for students will be:
1.
Introduction to Marketing- full year
2.
Entrepreneurship/School Store Operations- full year
3.
Advanced Marketing - full year
Introduction to Marketing gives students an opportunity to learn about marketing foundations such as promotion, selling, economics, and professional development. Communication and interpersonal skills are also important elements of marketing that we work on in class, as well as employability skills- how to write a resume, business letters, applications, and practicing interviewing skills. By joining DECA, marketing students will have the opportunity to participate in many fun and educational activities.
DECA
Students are strongly encouraged to join DECA, a national association of marketing students. The purpose of the Timberline DECA chapter is to encourage teamwork, the development of leadership qualities, professional understanding, social awareness and a sense of responsibility to school and community. The Timberline
Student Store is run by DECA students and profits are used to offset the price for students that are participating in DECA activities. DECA dues are $18 per year. Our chapter pays $8 of this amount to the DECA state and national organizations for each student, and this fee is paid from these student store profits. DECA dues for each student are $10. If a student wants to be a member and does not have the funds, please see me.
DECA membership is not required for marketing students, but students must be members to participate in
DECA functions. These include events such as community service activities, DECA job shadows, and the following DECA events (costs vary depending on location and number of days):
DECA Fall Leadership Conference
