 Helping Verbs:
A
helping verb always stands in front of a
main verb.
 For example, in the sentence Shyla can
ride her sister's bicycle, the helping verb
is can and the main verb is ride.

 The root soci in social means “ being part

 Today we are going to review our vocabulary
terms this week by completing the practice
exercises on pages 29-30

diagram the following sentences as review
of helping verbs:

S.p.n.= subject pronoun
H.p.= helping verb. Also remember helping verbs go on the
same line as the main verb (or action verb) because the
helping verb helps to make the main verb more
precise(clear).

Definition and example of terms:
Each study card must include a picture example or a sentence
example. Use the example below:
 The second-person narrative is a narrative mode in which
the protagonist or another main character is referred to by
second-person personal pronouns and other kinds of
addressing forms, for example the English second-person
pronoun "you".
 Example:

 Pair up with a person sitting next to you and
complete the review worksheet by underlining the
pronouns that tell you what point of view the
sentence is written in.You will have 15 minutes.
 Once your done please create 6 study questions
with your partner and answers that you will ask
another group to answer for review. You are only
allowed two What is type of questions.

 Imagery- Words that authors use to create a
picture of something as you read.
 Dialect- Characters speak in a way that is
common to a particular region and community.

Conversational Voice- A way of writing that makes
the reader feel that the narrator is speaking directly
to them.
 Dialogue: A conversation between two or more
characters.
 Characterization: is the development of a character
in a story. Authors often use different character
traits or descriptions of the characters personality:
For example: Sarah is normally sarcastic but today
she seems full of optimism.


culture.
 Qualities: n. traits; distinguishing characters.
 Pronoun: A word that takes place of a noun: HE
She They Them
 Predict: to make a guess or a inference( an
educated guess).
 Narrator: Character telling the story. Or the story
teller
 Point of View : Perspective the story is told from.


Day 8- January 9th
Entry # 29First Person Point of View: Perspective of the story told
from a character who is in the story. From this perspective
the reader only knows the thoughts and feelings of the
character telling the story. From this narrative perspective
the pronouns : I , me , my are used.
 Second Person Point of View: Perspective of the story is
told from a person who is not fully in the story. Also used
to give instructions or descriptions. Most commonly used
in How to books, not usually mentioned.
 Third Person Point of View Omniscient: Perspective of the
story is told from a character who is not in the story but
has knowledge of all characters thoughts and feelings.
TEST TIME
• Clear your desks of all things and take out a sheet of
paper and something to write with.
• Once you have completed the multiple choice section
