A buraeucary is a system of government where a group of appointed officials are responsible for different areas of the government. C C is for Confuscianism. Confuscianism is a system of beliefs introduced by the Chinese thinker Confucious; and it taught that people needed to have a sense of duty to their family and community in order to bring peace to society. D D is for dynasty. A dynasty is a line of rulers from the same family. Symbol for Qin Dynasty. E E is for exams. People who wanted to be part of the Chinese government took exams called Civil Service Exams. People would study for years for these exams. 1 in 5 people passed the test, but if you didn't, you could still have a small job in the government. F F is for farmers. Farmers played important roles in Ancient Chinese society. They grew all the crops and other goods. G G is for the Great Wall. The Great Wall was built to keep out the Xiongnu nomads. The Great Wall is 88,518 km long. H H is for the Huang He River. The Huang He River is an important part of Ancient China's geography. Its river valley is where the first Ancient Chinese civilization started. I I is for inventions. The Han dynasty was the Era of Inventions. The Chinese people were known for their works of bronze. J J is for jade. The Chinese made beautiful jewelry and sculptures out of jade. K K is for know. Little was known about the very first Chinese dynasty, the Xia dynasty. Chinese characters that mean "Xia Dynasty". L L is for Liu Bang. Liu Bang founded the Han dynasty. M M is for millet. Millet is a cheap grain that was grown in Ancient China. N N is for Neo-Confucianism. Neo-Confucianism is an adapted version of Confucianism that rejected superstitious and mystical elements of Daoism and Buddhism. O O is for oracle bones. Oracle bones are fortune-telling bones to whom rulers would ask questions to. P P is for porcelain. Porcelain is one of the products that was sold on the Silk Road. Porcelain is a fine-grained ceramic. Q Q is for Qin Shihuangdi. Qin Shihuangdi founded the Qin dynasty. R R is for rebel. People rebelled against many dynasties and overthrew them. Chinese characters meaning "rebel". S S is for silk. Silk was traded on the Silk Road. Silk is a cloth made from the cocoon of a silk worm. T T is for taking over. Every Ancient Chinese dynasty was taken over or overthrown. 接管 Chinese characters that mean "taking over". U U is for unite. Many Ancient Chinese dynasties united China. 团结 Chinese characters that mean "unite". V V is for voyage. Marco Polo made many voyages across the world with Kublai Kan. W W is for Wu Wang. Wu Wang founded the Zhou dynasty. X X is for the Xiongnu nomads. The Xiongnu nomads lived in the Mongolian Highlands. They had a war with the Han dynasty. Y Y is for the Yellow River. This river is also known as the Huang He, which i talked about on a previous slide. Z Z is for Zhang Qian. Zhang Qian founded the Silk Road.
