CLASS SUBJECTS
Language Arts
Spelling- augh and ough says /aw/
Reading – We are continuing with reading
The Lemonade War and doing some
comprehension activities. The students are
really enjoying this book. On various nights
students are assigned to read a chapter. The
next day I have been giving “pop quizzes”
pertaining to the assigned chapter.
Writing- Students will be doing writings of
their choice.
Math
More Geometry- lots of area and perimeter
We will have a quiz THURSDAY on the
following- comparing a square and a
rhombus, identifying right angles,
quadrilaterals.
Social Studies
Exploring why the settlers came to Michigan,
the settler’s food, clothing, and shelter,
work/chores, ways of travel, struggles, and
fun/entertainment. Also, how the settlers and
Native Americans interacted.
Science
More animal adaptations—We will have an
adaptation quiz on Wednesday. Please watch
for a worksheet that will be coming home
tomorrow. Use the worksheet as a study
guide please. Students could also study
science textbook pages A66-A69.
Classroom News
*No School Memorial Day—Monday, May 26th.
*As the end of the year approaches please watch this newsletter and The Communicator
for upcoming classroom and school events.

 Trip to the Iron Industry Museum—3rd Grade only (May 29th)
 Walk to Miner’s Park along with the Negaunee Historical Museum—3rd
Grade only (May 30th)
 School Picnic-All School (June 3rd-watch for times)
 Awards Assembly (June 4th @ 11 AM in the gym)
 Multiplication Sundae—3rd Grade only (June 4th—will be asking for each
student to bring in a favorite topping of their choice)
Settler Day—3rd Grade only (June 4th)—students will be asked to dress as
a settler and we will do “settler” activities like make butter, play settler
games, etc.
School Happenings

*The library will be closed for the remainder of the year starting the week of May27th. This
week—week of May 12th--- is the last week students will be able to check out books. All books
must be returned to the library NEXT WEEK—week of May 19th.
