Are Pima Data Relevant for
Other Populations?
• In 1965 they were thought to be unique
• Now it’s clear that they were just showing
us our future
• Many other ethnic groups have followed the
same pattern of progression through obesity
to diabetes
• All “unique” Pima findings have been
replicated in other populations
