Definition of Counseling On October 28, 2010, the ACA Governing Council approved a new definition of counseling, per the recommendation of the 20/20: A Vision for the Future of Counseling program. The definition, which may be customized for counseling specialties is: Counseling is a professional relationship that empowers diverse individuals, families, and groups to accomplish mental health, wellness, education, and career goals. All ICA leaders, regardless of chapter or division affiliation, are responsible for conducting chapter and division business in accordance with these By-Laws. The By-Laws address a number of important issues. These include: • • • • • • • The Name and Purpose of ICA Membership in ICA Annual Association Meeting Divisions, Chapters and Interest Sections of ICA ICA Officers ICA Council of Leaders ICA Committees Support of the Divisions ICA also works hard to support the divisions. Leadership Development refers to any activity that enhances the quality of leadership within an individual or organization.
