Please accept my résumé for a teaching position in your school. I have earned a Bachelor of
Science Degree and a Master of Science Degree in Special Education. I also hold a New York State initial
certificate in both Childhood and Early Childhood Education. My Early Childhood Massachusetts initial
certificate is currently pending upon completion of MTEL Foundations of Reading exam (which I will
take in June 2014).
As you may have noticed in my résumé, I am fluent in Spanish, both in oral and written
communication, which facilitates me in communicating with the large population of Spanish speaking
students that your school has. During my experience as a New York City teacher, I have utilized my
bilingual skill sets for English as a Second Language Learners. I believe that these skills and strategies
helped me to differentiate my instruction to meet students’ needs. I have been able to use the Common
Core State Standards to create different scaffolds in order for all of my students to have equal opportunity
and access to the curriculum. In my two years of teaching, I have also participated in a Title III
Afterschool program that focused on promoting oral communication and writing skills for English
Language Learners.
I feel that my teaching experiences in an urban setting have adequately prepared me to perform
successfully in the available position in your school. Having taught in an Integrated Co-teaching position
has allowed me to further develop strong collaboration skills and my ability to work with students with
disabilities to ensure that they make significant progress towards their goals. I have strong interpersonal
skills and have demonstrated this through effective communication and positive relationships that I have
established with my students and their families. Working in an urban setting has also allowed me to make
significant professional contributions with my colleagues such as doing intervisitations for literacy and
math lessons where I modeled how to effectively create lessons that are aligned to the Common Core
Standards. Being able to participate in many different professional development programs has also
allowed me to incorporate different strategies in my classroom for various subjects.
