The theme for this year’s Austcham Ball is “Great Southern Land”, which is a famous
Australian song, and has been inspired by the deep history and diverse culture of
Australia. Australia has something for everyone from the beach to the desert and we have tried to incorporate every aspect of this rich way of life. During the course of this evening the guests will be taken on a journey through some of the most famous areas of
Australia and have a chance to become completely immersed in the way of life.
Our aim is to thrill the guests by transporting those who are from Australia back home for one night, and those who have never been to a new and exciting other world
Great Barrier Reef
As the guests arrive they will be immediately transported into another time and place. The registration area will have a sand and surf theme with a sea themed backdrop, registration table shaped as a surf board and many sea elements with flora and fauna from the Great Barrier
Reef.
The photo opportunity at the registration area will include 2 live models dressed as lifeguards and a towering wave on the backdrop behind with a 3D shark’s head. A mechanical surf baord will provide a challenging aspect to the photo moment.
The Beach Bar in the Outback
A “Beach Bar” will be created in the foyer for the cocktail reception. This area will be set up as a mixture of beach and outback.
The beach feel will be made with surf boards, sand and some sea creatures like crabs.
The outback feel will be enhanced with joke outhouses (“Sheila's” and “Blokes”) and swags as well as anything else you may need for a night in the outback.
A 3D photo board will be set up for guests to take photos against as perfect memories of their night.
This photo opportunity will be a backdrop of the Stuart Highway with a Ute and a 3D sign post showing the distance from
Shanghai to the main cities in Australia.
Guests will walk through a Miners’ Tunnel as they enter the ballroom for the formal part of the evening. This gives a respectful nod to Australia’s rich mining history.
At the entrance of the tunnel, mining tools and elements will give guests a taste for what they are about to experience. Mining carts, lanterns, canary cages, old lamps, picks and hats will all add to the atmosphere of a real mine shaft.
Once inside the tunnel, guests will be able to enjoy an journey through the Tunnel of the Stars.
Australia’s most famous stars from theatre and film will welcome them into the ballroom through hung posters on the walls of the tunnel. The walls of the tunnel will be created with cloth lit up with LED sparkling lights which will add a touch of glamour of the entrance.
The stage set up for the evening will be a mock up of the iconic Sydney Opera House.
The sides of the stage will be made up in the structural shapes of the Sydney Opera
House. These can also be as entrance walkways MC and entertainers to enter and exit the stage. A large screen would be in the middle of the two structural shapes.
As a perfect start to the evening, the MC for the night would arrive dressed up as a ferry master, standing at a podium built to look like a Sydney ferry.

Great Southern Land Dance
What better a finale for the ball than a dance performance to the lyrics and tunes to the song of the night. “Great Southern
Land’.
Our dance performance troupe are well known in Shanghai for their skills and ability to creative performances that wow the audience.
We would create a moving background with Australian night sky and landscape images that would complement the dance completely coordinated for the Great
Australian Ball. Snippets of the actual lyrics of Great Southern Land will complement and highlight this year’s ball’s theme.
Modern Chinese Didgeridoo
Performance
Our exclusive Beijing based Chinese didgeridoo performance group are excited to have a chance to contribute to the Great
Australian Ball
The group will create a powerful didgeridoo and percussion performance that will incorporate modern Australian songs with the beats and ethereal magic of the didgeridoo and drums but with a local twist.
This is the perfect way to pay respect to
Australia’s Indigenous culture but also bringing a fusion element into the Great
Australian Ball .
We have two options for video snippets to be played during the dinner. These videos would be produced by Shanghai’s premier
Australian Video Artist, Tina Sparkles.

70s to the present- style would be snappy, quick clips and sound bites (similar to an
MTV style- can be intercut with branding or sponsors logos)

A target board with different sized targets will be set up and the object of the game is to throw sticky frogs, the smaller the target you hit the more points you score.
In this challenge, teams try to cover as much ground as possible in a single jump. To get the game under way, the first guest of each team jumps from the starting line without taking a running start. The next guest jumps from the spot where his teammate landed, and so on, until everyone has had a turn. The team that advances the farthest wins!
The Reptilian and Sea Critter Roundup
The guests would have to search through a sand box and/or giant fishbowl full of jelly to seek a prize. This game would be fun for everyone and give them an excuse to get their hands dirty.
The concept is similar to the ‘Wheel of Fortune’ but instead of dollar on the wheel, it will be different Australian icons as prize categories
