Our focus going forward is to form a relationship/ partnership with each individual and their family, enabling them to design their own service so that they can enjoy a real life in a real place with a healthy balance of supports Location Assignment to Mid-Roscommon Services based initially in Teach Ban Day and Residential Centre, Kilteevan, Co Roscommon. Future developments within the services may require that you are prepared to transfer to another work location as the service needs demand. Tenure of Employment This position is specific purpose, part time and pensionable to cover a staff’s secondment until approximately October 2015. We would like to commence this position immediately. Probation A probationary period of six months from the date of appointment applies to the post. The employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period should the employer find that the appointee is unsuitable to continue employment. The probationary period may be extended at the employer’s discretion. Character Each candidate must be of attested good character and maintain that status during the period of employment. Health The appointee must be free from any disease or defect, which would make him/her unsuitable to hold the position and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of rendering regular and efficient service. Qualifications, Experience, etc. Each candidate should possess the following qualifications and experience1: a) Have a recognised qualification in nursing (RNID desirable) and be currently registered in an appropriate division of the Register of An Bord Altranais. b) It is advantageous if applicants have experience of working with people with an intellectual disability who presents with behaviours that challenge c) Good team working skills and an interest in community involvement. d) A full clean current driving licence and access to a car. Our Ref.: document1 Page 1 Brothers of Charity Services Hours of Duty Normal working hours will be rostered flexibly on a 7 day basis (day and evening work). Sleepover duty is essential. The average fortnightly complement will be 35 hours. Locum duty is essential, whereby the person appointed will be expected to be flexible to work extra hours from time to time to cover other staff leave as needed. Starting and finishing times will be as notified to you by your Manager. Annual Leave Annual leave will be 24 days per annum pro-rata. Length of service award days may also apply. Remuneration The salary will be paid on a pro-rata basis, that is as a ratio of the full-time scale. The reference salary applying to the grade ranges from a minimum of €27,211 to a maximum of €42,469 gross basic per annum pro-rata. It is an 13-point salary scale and refers to a 39-hour week. After three years on maximum point of the scale, a long service increment applies bringing salary to €43,800 gross basic per annum pro-rata. Your entry point on the scale will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Generally the service user is the person for whom you are working, and their wishes need to be respected at all times. Principal Duties and Responsibilities 1. Overall with the Individual 1.1. Consult with Individuals to help them identify their future aspirations and current support needs and consider how these and all their personal outcomes can be met. 1.2. In accordance with each Individual’s wishes, assist the person to pursue any rights up to and including referral to the Rights Committee or other Advocate. 1.3. Co-operate on all aspects of care and training programmes. 1.4. Report on progress of people who use our services in all aspects of daily living to all professional staff who have a legitimate interest in the needs of the client. 1.5. Maintain a good relationship with parents and families at a level of contact as deemed appropriate by the Manager. 1.6. Be keyworker to individual supported as requested by the individual themselves or by senior staff nurse/manager. 2. Individual as Independent Person 2.1. Be supportive at all times, facilitating Individuals to make their own decisions, to selfadvocate, empowering the person to achieve realistic goals such as Independent/SemiIndependent Living, employment & educational options; mindful of the safety aspects. 2.2. You are expected to be pro-active and creative in response to the needs and aims of Individuals, using your initiative and taking responsibility for day to day decisions. 2.3. Individuals must be supported to be the Householder and to be seen to be the Householder, e.g. Answering door, welcoming visitors, and encouraging them to participate in the cleaning and cooking. 2.4. Assist Individuals in shared accommodation to live together and share responsibilities as appropriate. 2.5. Provide practical support and guidance as needed including personal care, which may include helping Individuals with intimate self-care tasks such as washing, dressing or going to the toilet. 2.6. You will need to perform such household duties as required to support Individuals in their daily lives. 2.7. Individual as Social Person 3.1. Support Individual in building up a social circle of friends and relationships, and in maintaining or re-linking Individual with family, friends, and others whom the Individual wishes. 3.2. Facilitate the Individual in finding a network of clubs of interest etc. in the community. 3.3. Provide variety and individuality for people who use our services in their lifestyle and participate in all training and recreational activities, social outings, trips and holidays. 3.4. Support and assist individuals to achieve social roles. 4. Individual as Working Person 4.1. Support and assist people who use our services to attend at their training or work place or work-sampling, at the time stipulated. 4.2. Support and assist people in other work-related activities or enterprises of their own. 5. Individual as Member of the local community 5.1. Community services, such as transport systems like buses and trains; libraries and so on should be utilised as much as possible. 5.2. Encourage participation and connection, where appropriate, activities outside the home and especially integration in the local community in a positive and image-enhancing manner. 5.3. Assist people we support toward finding valuable roles in life, be that through paid work, voluntary work or other valuable inputs to society in the form of valued social roles. 6. Individual as healthy person 6.1. Encourage the individual to follow a healthy regime, and attend doctor and health professionals in a pro-active way. 6.2. With the advice and help of the multi-disciplinary team, support the person’s emotional well-being. This may include working through particular issues. 6.3. There will be specific behavioural support programmes and it is vital to implement all aspects in the manner required. 6.4. It will be necessary that you liaise with the Behaviour Support Team and furnish any reports and records as may be required. 6.5. Administer medication as directed and as required in accordance with the Services’ policies and procedures. 6.6. Be responsible for the ordering,collection ,checking and logging of all medications prescribed. 6.7. Ensure medical records are filled and kept up to date. 6.8. Carry out wound dressings,as required from time to time, as per protocols in place. 7. Organisational Duties 7.1. Within the organisation there is a strong emphasis on teamwork and it is therefore essential for the appointee to foster good working relationships with all members of the Our Ref.: document1 Page 4 Brothers of Charity Services team, attend team meetings and individual planning meetings for people who use our services. 7.2. Liaise with the relevant staff in regard to obtaining suitable volunteers to assist and enhance the service. 7.3. Supervise any junior grades and volunteers and others, ensuring that they follow policies and procedures, and assign work tasks as required. 7.4. You may be assigned some special responsibilities for the house, such as petty cash, Health and Safety and property, implementation of roster, completion of master timesheet etc. Special responsibilities should be rotated with colleagues every so often, so that each social care worker /nurse is enabled to cover for one another when on leave. 7.5. Keep such records and make such reports as may be required. 7.6. Perform such other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Manager. As the duties and responsibilities of any post in the Services are likely to change with the ongoing needs of the people who use our services, i.e. age, level of disability, etc., staff are expected to have a high level of flexibility, a willingness and ability to develop new approaches to their work. As part of this environment and for their own selfdevelopment, staff are required to participate in on-going training. 7.7. Basic computer skills eg send and receive emails,minute meetings and access the intranet. 7.8. Knowledge of HIQA standards and regulation.
