2nd Grade Social Studies - This
week we will complete our study
of Geography.

homeroom teacher. This is to benefit classroom
libraries & our school library.

2nd and 3rd Grade Literacy
This week second grade will be focusing
on fine-tuning the Read to Someone station,
including practicing how to sit EEKK, perform
"I Read, You Read," and how to work
together cooperatively. Third grade will begin
practice rotating the three stations that they
have mastered thus far. They will be
introduced to two new stations, Listen to
Reading and Word Work.

I can compare and contrast characteristics of
vertebrates including fish, amphibians,
reptiles, birds, and mammals. I can describe
ways animals can help people.

Americans unit.
4th & 5th Grade Literacy – We will continue to master the

will continue studying our
United States Regions and
locating Kentucky's place
in the world.
foundational skills of the Daily 5 & CAFÉ. As we start our fifth week
with this new program we will increase our stamina expectations of
our station rotation to 20 minutes. I will also be introducing the
station, Listen to Reading, where we will create an “I Can” chart of the
behavior we would see while students are listening to a story read
fluently. Students will model the correct and incorrect ways to
independently learn within this station.

MathThis week in Math we will
continue estimation and
number theory. We will be
targeting greatest and least
common multiples, prime and
composite numbers, and
problem solving strategies.
ScienceWe are studying food webs
and food chains this
week. We will be dissecting
an owl pellet later in the week
to help students understand
the food chain and discover
what types of animals an owl
might eat. We will
reconstruct the bones
found in the pellet to
understand animal
structure.
We will be reviewing and taking
our Chapter 1 test this
week. Students have a math
journal that will be very handy in
studying for their test.

5th Grade Science Classes – Students will be taking a test on
Friday over Chapter 1 Cell Classification. They too have been given
a study guide and workbook pages we did in class and checked as a
study tool.
6th Grade Science Classes- Students will be taking a test on
Wednesday over Chapter 9 Classifying Matter. Students need to
reread the chapter and study their workbook pages that I went over
in class with them to use as a study tool.
Language classes We are continuing our study of the parts of
speech. Students will be assessed over those parts of
speech this week. I’m excited over the growth I am seeing in
our students as writers.
Fifth grade will learn about
European exploration in the 15th
and 16th centuries by working in pairs
to examine artifacts from an explorer's
"sunken ship." After analyzing and reading
about the artifacts, students will categorize
them. Test on Chapter 4 Friday, don't forget
to study using the online tutorial.
In 6th grade World Geography, students
will begin their study of Latin America. We
will take a look at the land, history and
people of the geographic area that makes up
Latin America.
Fifth grade math classes will continue this
week with Chapter 2 Whole
Number Multiplication and
Division. Students will multiply and divide
using patterns, simplify numeric expressions
using the order of operations and solve real
world problems. Drops in the
Bucket 5 will be due on Friday. Please
encourage your child to make good use of
the homework time they are provided daily.
Writer's Workshop It feels like a whirlwind, but our writing is
coming along beautifully. Ask your child about the 6 Traits of Writing.
Literacy Today begins our first day of full implementation of our Daily 5
schedule. We are excited about our literacy classes.
Music The Grandparents Day Choir is preparing something special for
you this Friday. You don't want to miss it!
