ANTIQUIE ARCHEOLOGY Antquie Archolegy is located in LeClaire,Iowa. Mike Wolf and Frank Frets have their own show on the history Channel and the show is called American Pickers. They have their own store and you can go in and buy things that were on the show. One day out of the year they hold a thing called LeClaire days and you can go and meet Mike and Frank. The Walter’s family donated the house in the 1970’s along with the trust to maintain it and the house has it’s own boat house and it is set up to a stream DUBUQUE RIVER RIDES The boat that gives the rides is called SPIRIT. SPIRIT is a replica of century old Mississippi River steamboat with decorative some stacks. The SPIRIT has been show casing the vast history and beauty of Dubuque area for over 20 years. ESTHERVILLE METEORITE The meteorite fell 3 miles from Estherville and landed on the Lee farm on May 10th. This meteorite is the largest meteorite that has been known to fall in North America . It was broken into three pieces weighing at 431,106,151 pounds. FORT MADISON ART CENTER Fine arts exhibits by regional and nationally known artist. Sales gallery carries works of more than 60 local artist in watercolor, oil, pottery ,china, and many more. GROTTO OF THE REDEMPTION The Grotto is a composite of nine separate Grottos, each portraying a scene in the life of Christ. It includes the largest collection of precious stones and gems found anywhere in one location. The Grotto is frequently considered the “ Eighth Wonder of the World” and the Iowan magazine has described the Grotto as a “ Mirical in Stone”. HEARTMAN RESERVE NATURE CENTER Heart reserve nature center is 300 acre wooded isle located in the heart of metropolitollition BlackHawk County. In 1939, Jhon C. Heartman of Waterloo Daily Courier helped the local YMCA purchase 56 acres of forrested land. Camp Heartman Reserve was used for camping and other programs until the early 1970’s. In 1976 the board purchased the land. INDIAN CREEK NATURE CENTER The Indian Creek Nature Center sits on land previously occupied by two farms that were established in 1849. The land changed hands several times before a family bought it. The farm remained in the Bend family until it was sold to the Indian Creek in 1994. JHON WYANE John Wyane was born in Western, Iowa in 1907. When he was a boy when his family moved many different times. They stayed in Glendale , California were later on he became a movie star. KEOKUK NATIONAL CEMETRY The Keokuk National Cemetery is one of the twelve original national cemeteries designated by the U.S. Congress. During the Civil War the presence of the college of Physicians and Sun grass caused the federal government to locate a military hospital in Estes House, and four other sites in Keokuk. During the Civil War ,and were buried in what became Iowa’s only National Cemetery. LAURA INGALS WILDER PARK AND MUSEUM The Laura Ingalls Wilder Park and Museum is located in Burr Oak, Iowa. It is Laura Ingalls Wilder’s childhood home. This is the home where Laura Ingals Wilder grew up and developed her love of books and words. This is where stories flowed from the tombstones of Burr Oak pioneers in the cemetery and where Laura and her friend Alice found solace in the quiets of summer afternoons on the hill by the Advent church. MOTER MILL HISTORIC SITE The settlement of Motor Mill existed only from the 1840’s to the 1870’s. What remains at the historic site is a six story mill, made from limestone ,and four other buildings. The Mill is the tallest mill in the Midwest. The site is along the Turkey River , so visitors can take advantage of a scenic picnic area and canoe access. The Mill is over onehundered years old and shows no shign of settling. NAGLE WALNUT GROVE PIONEER VILLAGE The sites at Nagle Walnut Grove Pioneer Village are Antique Farm, Machinery Building, Barber Shop, Bison Saloon, Blacksmith Shop and many more. Walnut Grove’s boardwalk took shape in 1994 when the Apothecary shop was opened. The boardwalk features many sites. OAK TREE The Oak tree is Iowa’s state tree. The Oak tree is not a single species , but about 400 species of oak trees are the genus Quarks. This family includes deciduous and evergreen species is native of the northern hemisphere. These trees bloom flowers in the spring and many people say “The acorn is it’s fruit”. PIKES PEAK STATE PARK In this area, Native Americans of the Woodland Culture of 800 to 1,200 A.D. sculpted earthen “Effigy” Mounds on ridge tops in the shapes of animals, to celebrate their ones with Mother Earth. Many of these mounds remain today as a monument to these people and a remainder to use that we are also of the Earth. QUAD CITIES SYMPHONY AND ORCHASTRA The symphony is in Davenport Iowa. They have over 20 different kinds of instruments. REMIAN GARDENS This id now one of the largest public gardens in Iowa , Remain Gardens creates a striking entrance to Iowa State University and city of Ames. Situated on a 14-acre site, the year-round facility district gardens through the indoor and outdoor areas, an indoor conservatory of 2,500 square foot indoor butterfly emergency cases, a gift shop, ad five supporting green houses. SPOOK CAVE AND CAMPGROUND Spook cave and campground is located among the beautiful and peaceful bluffs of rural McGregor, Iowa. While you are in the cave watch your tour guide point out the formations while desiring the history of our area and how the cave was discovered and formed. TOOLESBORO INDIAN MOUNDS It is located in Wapello Iowa. This is a group of seven woodland culture burial mounds and visitor center/museum with one total culture artifacts. The Toolesboro site consists of seven burial mounds on a bluff overlooking the Iowa River near where it joins the Mississippi River. The conical mounds were constructed between 100 BC and AD200 by a local Hopewell group. At one time there may have been as many as twelve mounds, but subsequent settlement and excavation have reduced that number to the present seven. UNION COUNTY VISITORS CENTER This was renovated in 1931 Phillips 66 gas station was dedicated to Union County interpreter Frank Phillips and now serves as a visitor center. VILLISACA AXE MUERDER HOUSE This is located Villisca Iowa . The murder happened on June 10th 1912. On a quiet residential street in this small town sits on an old white frame house is different from the other homes that surround it. Upon closer inspection, you’ll notice her doors and windows are tightly closed and covered. An outhouse in the backyard suggests that this house does not occupy a place in the 21st century but somehow belongs in another area or another story. A weather-beaten sighs warns rather than welcomes. This is the “Murder House”. WILTON CANDY KITCHEN This is located in Wilton Iowa. The Wilton candy kitchen is listed in the National Register of Historic Places founded by R.A. Mclntrye in 1860.The Wilton Candy Kitchen is the oldest ongoing Ice Cream Parlor/Soda Fountain in the world and has been serving visitors ice cream, lunches, and candy over 150 years. Under ownership of the Nopoulos family since 1910, it is currently run by Gorge and Thelma Nopoulous. EXIRA IOWA The oldest town in Audubon county is Exira. Exira was founded in 1857. The town was named after Exira Eckman, daughter of judge Jhon Eckman from Ohio, who agreed to purchase a lot of property if the town was named after his daughter. On July 2nd, 1958, Exira was ravaged by flooding of the East Nishnabotna River. Nineteen people in the area lost their lives,75 homes were destroyed and almost 20 businesses in the western part were damaged. Exira is well known for its Fourth of July celebrations ,which have been celebrated since 1861. The morning parade and the evening fireworks draw thousands of visitors. YUCCA PLANT Yucca plant is a genus of perennial shrubs and trees in the family Asparagaceae, shrubbing, Agavoideae. Its 40-50 species are notable for their rosettes of evergreen tough sword shaped leaves are large terminal panicles of white or whitish flower. They are native to warm and dry parts of North America. It is known in the Midwest United States as “Ghosts in the Graveyard”. As it is commonly found growing in a rural graveyards and when is bloom the flowers appear as an apparition floating. THE BLANK PARK ZOO This zoo is located in Des Moines Iowa. The zoo has many animals such as the Red Panda, Two toed Sloth, Crowned Crane, Ostrich, African, Ring Tailed Leamer, Hissing Cockroach, Alligator, Domestic Goat, Emu, Plumed Whistling Duck, and many more. There are also many behind the scene tours that you can take. Some of them are Sea Loin training , Great Cats, and more. In the Great Cats tour you can chat with zoo keepers who take care of the large cats and you can observe training sessions. In the Sea Loin training tour you can work with zoo keepers to prepare the fish for feeding and stand on the Sea Loin deck during a training session.
