PRAYER AFTER RECEIVING THE HOLY COMMUNION
We thank THEE O Father who hast designed to feed us with the precious body and blood of His Son Our
Saviour JESUS CHRIST. Grant that this Holy Communion may not bring fresh guilt upon us, but
may give us salvation. Let it be upon us armour of faith and a shield of good resolution. Let it help
us to fight against all our sins and wrong desires; and let it defend us against the assaults of the
devil and the bad thoughts of our hearts and give us firm loyalty to Thee and a happy end, through
JESUS CHRIST our LORD. Amen.

Theme: The Consequence Of Missing The Presence of God
Topic: A Life of Disobedience
Text:
1 Sam. 15:10-23
Aim:
To teach us how disobedience can be a result of missing
the presence of God.
Introduction
In out text today, we have the story of King Saul who was appointed
by God. But he lost his bearing in Jehovah. Consequently, he began
to do his own things and went his own way. He became more
Inclined to obeying men and wanting to please them rather than
God, who appointed him. Eventually, he was deposed from the
throne as an example for us to learn from. We must be ready to
take responsibility for our disobedience when we refuse to tarry
in the presence of God for His guidance (Prov. 5:3-6).
Study Guide
1.
How often do we go for “burnt offering and sacrifices” today
rather than obeying God? I Sam. 15:22.
b.
c.
What does God want from us? Hos. 6:6; Micah 6:8.
Why? John 8:51; 14:23
2.
Discuss some reasons why even believers don’t obey
God perfectly and completely? Acts 5;27-29; Prov. 29:25;
3.
Heb. 2:15
Read 1Kings 13:11-22. What do you think could have been
the response of the young prophet from Judah to the old
prophet?
4.
Where do you think the young prophet missed it and what
are the lessons for us?
Conclusion
Disobedience often leads to destruction. No matter how good our
reason may be, no one shall be justified when he disobeys God.
Food For Thought
It’s always better to follow God’s guidance in all we do.

Come and rejoice with me!
For once my heart was poor,
And I have found a treasury
Of love, a boundless store.
Come and rejoice with me!
I, once so sick at heart,
Have met with One who knows my case,
And knows the healing art.
Come and rejoice with me!
For I was wearied sore,
And I have found a mighty arm
Which holds me evermore.
Come and rejoice with me!
My feet so wide did roam,
And One has brought me from afar,
To find in Him my home.
Come and rejoice with me!
For I have found a Friend,
Who knows my heart’s most secret depths,
Yet loves me without end.
I knew not of His love;
And He had loved so long,
With love so faithful and so deep,
So tender and so strong.
And now I know it all,
Have heard and known His voice,
And hear it still from day to day,
Can I enough rejoice?

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son,
and the Holy Ghost. Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you;
and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen” Mt 28:19-20.
These words are Christ’s Great Commission to all His followers of every generation. They state
the goal, responsibility, and commissioning of the Church’s missionary task. The whole concept
actually started from the Old Testament.
Israel was called to be a wise and understanding nation radiating God’s glory to the world (Deut.
4:6). They were meant to be His witness – an example of true community, a moral light, a living
testimony to God’s presence and power. In essence, God did not call His people to become a
holy huddle enjoying the exclusive benefits of his undivided attention.
To fulfill this calling, the Israelites were to pass on their story and the obligations of the covenant
to future generations. Deuteronomy not only reminds us of the value of good teaching and the
regular telling of the old, old story, but it challenges those who love it to go and share it. Jesus
also said his disciples must shine their light in the world desperate for wisdom (Mt. 5:14).
The church’s mission can be summed up in five general tasks. The order in which they are listed
is not intended to suggest priorities.
1. She is to be involved in stewardship – the material resources of creation. This means
encouraging a wise and harmonious use of the natural order created by God, by
engaging in the numerous aspects of conversation and the elimination of pollution. The
church will point to the creator’s gift of life for all which implies renouncing greed, and a
restrained enjoyment of material goods by all in such a way that future generation will
find life sustainable on earth.
2. She is to serve human beings without distinction and whatever their needs may be.
3. She must bear witness to ‘the truth as it is in Jesus’ (Eph 4:21). Bearing witness means
both the verbal communication of the gospel and visual demonstration of its power to
bring new life and hope to human relationships and communities.
4. She should be engaged in seeing that God’s justice is done in society.
5. She has a responsibility to show what it means in practice to be a reconciled and
liberated community in the midst of a corrupt, distressed and despairing world. She is
sent to demonstrate the reality of God’s unmerited grace by practising forgiveness, the
sharing of goodness and resources, by eliminating prejudice and suspicion, and by
exercising power as servant hood, not as domination and control. The church is to be
both a sign and an agent of God’s purpose to create a new order where His peace and
justice will reign.
