What is a region?
◦ A region is an area of land that has a unifying
characteristic (climate, land, population, history,
economics).
◦ Geographers use regions to make comparisons.

There are five (5) regions in Asia – not
including Siberia (Russia)!

Central Asia
Your book does not separate out these
countries, but rather includes them in
Southwest Asia. Because they are different
than the Middle East countries in many ways,
they should have their own region. (Look on
page 639 of your text book to determine
which countries might be a part of Central
Asia.)
