Update ECOLOMOTIVES Dear Students, Ecolomotives has recently decided upon a 35 million dollar budget on this project. We need you to take this into account more seriously now, as well as some interesting new opportunities. We have been informed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of a new vehicle recycling system available for our factory. It takes previously used metals and plastics and uses them to mold car parts. Full installation would cost $8 million. This would reduce the production energy of our vehicles by 30%. We have been offered a chance to purchase a portion of the Amazon Rainforest that was recently cut down and stripped for resources. We thought purchasing and replanting would be a great way to show our environmental interests. This purchase would cost $10 million, but the amount of air that the rainforest would clean would more than compensate for the CO2 produced by our vehicles engines, allowing us to negate the need of the emissions category. We can also spend $2 million dollars to fund an education program that tours the United States and teaches children about the importance of the rainforest and habitat destruction. We can even use a portion of each vehicle’s profits to grow our holdings on the rainforest. This has no impact on the vehicles, but could help our environment, and our sales, in the long run. Our research team has told us that they could investigate how to make our cars more streamlined and efficient, therefore reducing their overall energy per kilometer. If we reduce the amount of drag on the cars, they will use less energy while driving. If we can get them $5 million for research in development, they guarantee our vehicle will be 10% more efficient in that category. If you can get them $9 million, they promise a 15% increase. This option is available for any power plant, provided we do not go over our budget. Please go through your selection process again with this new information and decide how to most effectively spend our 35 million dollar budget! Please write us to explain your choice of power plant and other expenditures and how you arrived at this decision. We need a record of the new process so that we may use it to develop future models. Remember, we want our clients to know that we care about the environment! Whether we do that by fixing the rainforest or our engines is up to you! Don’t let us down! Sincerely, Sym B.
