Thursday 13th December The Tupi Tribe The Amazon Rainforest Brazil 13.12.12 Dear Editor, I am the Chief of the Tupi Tribe. I am writing to persuade your readers to protest against the destruction of my rainforest. The rainforest is beeing cut down at an alarming rate. Rainforests all around the world are disappearing, not just my rainforest. Another name for the rainforest supplies most of the world’s oxygen. So what happens in forty years time and all of the rainforests are gone? How will we breath? It just goes to show how important the rainforests are to the human race. An area the size of a football pitch is being cut down every five seconds. Most of the worlds medicines come from plants from the rainforest. Incredibly, these plants have cured many illnesses. If deforestation keeps happening and all the plants are gone, then a new illness comes along and there are no cures left, what will we do? Sadly, the Tupi Tribe people will be extinct in the next few years because of deforestation. It has caused, many problems like: lack of water, food and places to live. I know how much damage is being caused, because I live it every day. My tribe strongly disagrees with the damage that has been done. Everyone in my tribe has suffered. Put your self in our shoes. We are like one big family. If you were split up from your family how would you feel? It hurts. We aren’t that powerfull compared to some other people. We only take what we need from the rainforest. We need the rainforest more than you. The rainforest is our school, our life and our home. If we lose the rainforest we have no where to go. If your family has lived in the same area for thousands of years would you like to be moved? In the rainforest, our most precious treasure is being killed off. The treasure is the biggest thing in the rainforest and that is the animals. Certain animals are almost at the point of extinction. After you kill all these beautiful creatures they will be gone, never to return. Unfortunatly we are not doing enough to save them. Sadly, because some animals can only live in one place they may be dying off quicker. This means that we have less food for us as well. As careful as we may be, it just might be too late. People are just ungrateful with animals. They are being killed for their bones and teeth for medicines. Also people skin them for rugs, jackets ect. In conclusion, the rainforest is endangered so we should save it. You can save the rainforest by not buying certain products from the rainforest. Yours Faithfully Chief of the Tupi Tribe
