Aims of the lesson:

a) to enable pupils to say the days of the week in order
b) to enable pupils to use the structure “ I can” +verbs
Cultural:
a) to raise awareness of different pronunciation of the letter “ I” and single
pronunciation of “J”

The main part of the lesson:
Activity 1 Listen and repeat.
Objective: to warm up and introduce new words: days of the week
STEP 1: Ask the pupils to listen to the song and say what the song is about. If they don’t
guess say that the song is about the days of the week.
STEP 2: Play the DVD again and ask the pupils to sing together with the DVD. Don’t
worry if your pupils cannot remember the song at once. Say that they will listen and
sing the song for the next three lessons of the unit and will remember it well.

Activity 2a Play “Jump”.
Objective: to revise verbs from Class 1 with the structure “I can …”
STEP 1: Play the DVD and animate all pictures. Pupils just watch and listen. if you have
no possibility to use the DVD, you can start with step 2.
DVD script: 1. Frog: I can jump. 2. Monkey: i can climb. 3. Horse: I can run. 4. Crocodile:
I can swim. 5. Robot 1: I can fly. 6. Robot 2: I can play hockey. 7. Robot 3: I can skate. 8.
Robot 4: I can ski.9. Boy: I can play football. 10. Girl: I can jump a rope. 11. Boy: I can fly
a kite.
STEP 2: Ask the pupils to look at the pictures and point to the picture when they hear a
verb. Say all the verbs in turn: fly, jump, climb, run, swim, play football, fly a kite, jump
rope, ski ,skate, play hockey. Watch that they point to all the pictures correctly.
STEP 3: Ask the pupils to stand in a circle. Say that you will demonstrate how to play a
game. Throw a ball to a pupil and say “Jump” and help the pupil to say “I can jump.”
Throw a ball to another pupil and say another verb, for example “climb” etc

Activity 2b Work in pairs. Point and say.
Objective: to revise verbs and the structure “I can …”
Ask the pupils to work in pairs. Pupil A must point to any picture in Activity 2, Pupil b
must say
“I can …”.
Optional Activity 2c Work in pairs. Mime and say.
Objective: to consolidate verbs and the structure “I can …”
Ask the pupils to work in pairs. Pupil A must mime any action from the pictures in
Activity 2, Pupil b must say: e.g. “You can jump”. You can also play the DVD to show
how to do this activity.
Activity 3 Write the letters.
Objectives: to learn two more letters of the alphabet – Ii and Jj;
to practise writing the letters;

to consolidate the letters.
Ask the pupils to look at the letter “Ii” and say what picture is next to the letter (icecream). Play the DVD and ask the pupils to listen and repeat the letter and the
corresponding picture. Also draw their attention to the way the letters are written.
Then ask the pupils to open their Workbooks and start writing the capital letter “I” and
then small “i”. Ask them to look at the example and follow the arrows. If necessary,
demonstrate on the blackboard. Then repeat the procedure with the letter “Jj”

Optional Activity 4 Play “Cross the river”.
Objectives: to revise days of the week;to have fun.

Ask the pupils to look at the picture and say what they see there or play the DVD and
ask what has happened.
