How could you organize them? How would you make sure you can find the exact book you need whenever you need it? Back in 1872, One very smart man figured out a way to organize thousands of books. His name was… He created the Dewey Decimal Classification when he was 21 years old! Before Dewey invented his system of classification, each library organized their materials in their own way. Usually only the librarian was able to find specific materials. The Dewey Decimal system is composed of 10 main categories. Every book subject is assigned a number between 000 and 999. This number is called the Call Number. The call number appears on the spine of the book.
