Geometry Course Syllabus Mrs. Nonna Gutman nonna.gutman@marshall.k12.mn.us (507) 537- 6920 ext. 1070 Textbook: Holt Mathematics Geometry © 2007 Course Description: This course is designed for your needs as a student. Through this course you will be able to see where different mathematical concepts ‘fit in’ with the world around you. A major goal of this course is to help you learn ‘how to think’ and ‘how to problem solve’ as well as enhance geometry skills. Objectives of this Course: You should be able to: explore many new mathematical topics as well as extend those topics studied in previous mathematics courses apply mathematical concepts and ideas to real-world situations solve problems through mathematical models, activities, projects and investigations reason mathematically through making decisions, following and/or constructing logical arguments, and both making and testing conjectures. communicate mathematics through discussions, reading, visual thinking, and writing Course Content: We are going to learn as much “in depth” material as we can throughout the course. The goal is to understand, apply, and retain the knowledge, concepts, and strategies within mathematics rather than simply memorizing for tests. Some of the items that we will be studying are: Chapter 1: Foundations for Geometry Chapter 2: Geometric Reasoning Chapter 3: Parallel and Perpendicular Lines Chapter 4: Triangle Congruence Chapter 5: Properties and Attributes of Triangles Chapter 6: Polygons and Quadrilaterals Chapter 7: Similarity Chapter 8: Right Triangles and Trigonometry Chapter 11: Circles Chapter 10: Spatial Reasoning Materials: a 3-ring binder with graph paper 2 or 3 pencils or a mechanical pencil with extra lead color pencils (red, blue, green, yellow) a pencil sharpener yellow highlighter eraser scientific calculator ruler protractor compass book cover for your textbook Homework: With this mathematics course in order for the students to have the best possible experience in this course, homework will generally be assigned every day. .
