Diet Analysis Assignment

Due no later than the last day of instruction!

For seven days you will keep track of everything that you eat, consume, ingest, drink, swallow, gulp, quaff, guzzle, swill, gobble, smoke and/or snort. You must keep track of not only of what you consume, but how much of it. At least one meal each day must be of lactovegetarian content. At some point during the seven days, you must try two new whole foods.

You will go to https://www.choosemyplate.gov/SuperTracker/ and create a user profile. You will enter everything you consume into the tracker. If there are certain foods or supplements you consume that are not listed in the Food Tracker, and you absolutely cannot find any comparable items in the Food Tracker, then you must make your best effort to determine the content of those foods, and add that information into an appendix that you will analyze and turn in. At the end of your seven days, you will print out from your overview the Food Groups & Calories report, Nutrients report, and Meal Summary report for your own analysis and to turn in.

After you analyze your dietary reports, you will write a summary paper that contains all of the following components:

 Self-assessment of your diet adequacy, balance, caloric moderation, and variety including your rationale for each assessment.

 Compare your average food group intakes to the recommended targets.

 Discuss your caloric intake compared to your estimated total caloric expenditure.

Would you be gaining or losing weight? How much/how fast?

 Discuss all nutrient deficiencies you had. How deficient were you on average? What are the potential hazards if those nutrients are consumed in deficient quantities for too long? What are some FOOD sources that you could incorporate into your diet to consume adequate amounts of those nutrients?

 Discuss all nutrients you consumed in excess. How far in excess were you? What are the potential hazards of those nutrients if they are consumed in excess for too long, or too high (think toxicity)? What foods did you consume that were high in those nutrients?

 Compare your macronutrient intake to the AMDR.

 Brief summary of what this assignment taught you about your diet. Any surprises either good or bad? What were your two new foods and how were they?

 A list of at least 5 goals for your diet moving forward and at least one specific strategy for each goal. Each goal must be specific, objective, and measurable.
